Some varieties just grow with bumps. Usually heirlooms. They are fine to eat. Real fine from the look of them!

Mary, did you grow those from seed? If so, what variety is it? That's like the squash we grew back home.

Alma, They are an heirloom from Botanical Interests. I think I bought the packet at Summer Winds. Latin name is: Cucurbita pepo.

The zucchini is also from the same vendor and is called Balck Beauty Zucchini (cucurbita pepo also.....how can that be?????). It's not warted and very tasty. Ate the first one off the vine yesterday. Tiny baby squash.

Here's my first harvest - lol... An 8 Ball Zucchini and those same naturally warted crooknecks... I have since harvested several more of each plus a couple Black Beauty Zucchini...

Yup - they are all Cucurbita pepo... That is one family of squash and all those can cross with one another if you plan to save seeds...
