I'll try to document this as it goes. It may be a slow go, as my sons are doing the labor and we have to work around their busy schedules. As noted in previous threads, my neighbor lab had adopted my preformed fish pond as a personal bathtub. Rather than constantly battle her natural water tendencies, I decided to re-do into a pond-less water feature. Mother's Day is traditionally a no-gifts but labor-of-love day for me, which I treasure. So, this year was the beginning of the water feature. The boys first moved all the rock from the border, dug out all the plants (some will be relocated, others I'll pot up to replace in same location) drained and cleaned the pond, then dug the pond liner down a bit below ground level. The idea is to put in a bubbler rock column, perhaps a dish rock, and who knows what else. We'll probably re-use the edging rock and I also have a fair amount of round river cobble. It's an evolving project.
The pond last year, and after puppy (rocks pushed in, plants destroyed, water muddied):

Repositioning the liner, seating it with water, then emptying it for another cleaning (yep, that's the neighbor pup at the right):
Meanwhile, Frankie looks on with worry, wondering what's happening to her watering hole (she only drinks from it, doesn't jump in):
