Shade Sails

By Cocobid

We rarely see shade sails here in the United States, in contrast to countries like Australia, where their use is quite common. We stumbled upon them totally by accident and necessity about 9 years ago. After a nasty storm that tore our large awning off the western side of the patio, we needed a new form of sun protection fast. We installed these only as a temporary solution, but found that they would always be a permanent installation at our home.

My first two shade sails are here, but I'm working on a second try at hanging them. I ordered triangular sails for a triangular area, but they're not going up quite as I envisioned they would. I was attempting to use the house as my anchor points so I wouldn't have to sink posts, but that's not going to work...the angles aren't right. So I bought some extra cord and I'm going try to use the garage as a third connection point. Even though the first try isn't quite right, it's still doing the job it was intended for...so I'm happy so far. Smiling

Use chain.. much better & stronger than rope. S hooks and SS eye hooks into your house. True it is all about the angles, but don't fret if they are not perfectly tight or angled. As long as you are creating shade you are ahead of the game already. You will get it figured out!! Hope you enjoy...
