Do not even know if slugs and snails are in East TX. My prior reading says to set out a 'beer trap'. The other way from years gone by in HI where there are slugs and snails is this: 'search and destroy' by finding them and dumping salt on them. Watch them shrink and die.

Welcome @glennsanada - slugs are just a fact of life in the rainy Pacific NW. The beer traps do work, as does salt. Or, as one gardener suggested on a different thread, simply snip them in half with scissors. More will be back the next day...
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

I too am in the Pacific Northwest, and slugs are just part of gardening for me. I go on slug patrol, in the evening often. It took some getting use to years ago, when I started, but now I see it as a productive garden chore. I also use deadline. For us, there will always be taxes and slugs where we live Bonehead, so I appreciate your slug necklace. I do love your idea, especially for those precious young plants, like Bleeding heart, and fuschia. I may steal your idea and glue a few lines of pennies around some planters.
