My wife is making handcrafted hanging planter baskets to sale. She has 3 different sizes available: 13in. diam for $30, 19in. diam for $40, and 25in. diam for $50. These measurement are for the inside of the baskets. They come unfinished or can be torched and sealed upon request at an additional charge based on basket size ordered. The planter basket pictured below is 19in. and has been torched and sealed. Feedback welcome!

These are beautiful! Can you tell me what kind of wood your wife crafts this out of and it is suitable for outside use? It looks as if the plant is planted directly into the basket? Is there room for a pot? What size pot? Can you give us an estimate on the weight so we can estimate shipping, please? It's not too early to think about Christmas! TIA

Those are very NICE! Yes, what kind of wood, and what is " torched" ? You mean, slightly colored by flame?

The wood is pine and can be sealed and weather proofed to be put outside. Shipping starts out at $15 for the 13in., $20 for the 19in., and $25 for the 25 in. This type of planter has coco core lined in bottom for direct planting, no pots. She is in process of making new designs that will hold pots. The torching was done by flame, then she sealed/weather proofed it. We now have it hang out in front of house. They look heavy but the 25 in. weighs @ 13 lbs.

You need to re-evaluate your shipping charges, Jeff. I think you can do much better than this.

Jeff, your wife's wooden baskets are gorgeous! Can you tell me what she uses for sealing the wood; I'm wondering if it's a product like Thompson's Water Sealer like we used to use on our wood deck and swing? I'm considering ordering one those beautiful baskets! I used to have a similar one that we purchased when on vacation years ago and although it was never sealed and lasted a number of years before falling apart, it would have held up much longer if we'd sealed it.

For those questioning the shipping charges: I went to both the UPS website and US Postal Service site for an estimate of shipping costs from Brunswick, Ga (zip code 31525 to me here in Daytona Beach, Fl (zip code 32119) and used a weight of 15 pounds.

Shipping UPS Ground, the estimate was: $18.20
Shipping US Post Office Ground, the estimate was: $19.60 *

*USPS they required length/width/height of the package so I clicked large package/box and randomly entered a size of 24 inch length, 18 inch height, 24 inch width.

Those were just estimates for my location; shipping charges differ according to zip code destinations but Jeff's shipping charges sound comparable to me.

That all looks correct, but I think the height will be considerably less than the 18", and that makes a difference. But these baskets are very heavy, so shipping will be expensive regardless of size.

Thanks everybody! The shipping does differ depending on location, I was just trying to be as close on shipping price as I could. The wood comes treated, and after wife torched basket, she Olympia watersealed it and then put polyurethane on it.
