It is June and here in the North East it starts feeling a bit like Summer! We have a lot of pretty blooms in our Gardens, but in addition our blooming Orchids will still delight us!
We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in May 2014" in Orchids forum
Please post away and join in.

Let me start with a new bloomer, this is Lc Good Friend. I spotted the large blooms last Summer at Silva Orchids, they were gorgeous and so beautifully scented, I had to enquire immediately what it was and could I please, please have a division. This is another of the Lc John Mossman hybrids, this one x with C. mossiae. I did come home with a division. Smiling
I was delighted when I saw good growth and actually some sheaths developing over the Winter into Spring. The scent is downright heavenly!!
One large bloom and two slightly smaller ones on a second spike.

I tried to take some more pictures yesterday in the cage, but it was just too blustery. This morning was much better.
You probably saw some of these in the new growing area thread, but here are they now labeled.

And this was, I think, my very first Neofinetia falcata. This is Tamakongo and I bought it from Jason Fischer some years ago. It added a lot of the compact, so called Bean - leaf growth through the years and seems to be happy in its pot. The flowers are a bit smaller than other "Neo -blooms", but just as beautifully fragrant at evening/night time.

And Neofinetia falcata Higashidemiyako ( east of Kyoto) starts up. Pretty blooms on nice Fukurin striping

And there is the Gongora Pterodactyl, in bloom since this Winter. I love it, it just keeps on shooting out long dangling spikes. The blooms have a wonderful scent of mainly Cloves and a bit of Cinnamon.
So hard to photograph as the slightest breeze wiggles these characters.

Goodness, Ursula, I think every one of those above is going on my 'want' list!

Glad to see your Hoku Gem 'Sunspots' in that nice slat basket. The raccoon knocked mine over and broke the pot the other night, so it just went into a new slat basket, too. Fit perfectly and it really had a ton of very healthy roots, so I simply popped it in, and tucked a few fluffs of new coco fiber into the corners.

Elaine, I think we have a very similar approach to potting Orchids! Thumbs up
Some years ago, I planted a bunch of the smaller Cattleyas into Bonsai pots. A few later I simply popped those which were totally overgrown as is into another pot or basket or simply put a chain around them and hung them up. I love Coconut fiber, the Orchids seem to like it, it is cheap and every nursery sells it by the yard. I always loosen it up first and wet it thoroughly before I anchor a plant with it.
I am right now fashioning some basket from that white wire cage roll and I am lining it with that stuff.

Great start, Ursula. All are nice but the Domingoa haematochila catches my eye.

81 degrees with 93 percent humidity right now. We had another nice shower this afternoon. I have been out pulling weeds and vines that are growing at a tremendous rate in this weather.

Another gorgeous day here in NJ. perfect for washing out dirty greenhouse trays and starting on the glass walls....at least this morning.
But first, here is my Coelogyne Burfordiense starting up with lots of spikes to come. I think it appreciated the fish tank water this indoor season. Smiling

I am glad I kept one of the divisions, when divided it a few years ago. It takes up a lot of room, but luckily it doesn't need the premium sunny spot to come fine through the Winter.

It's just amazing, Ursula. That has to be the greenest flower I've ever seen! Such pretty markings on the lip.

The first two shots looked pretty green on my monitor...until I enlarged them. It's a beauty, in any case!

The middle picture, the enlarged flower shot, is greener for me than the other two. I think it is just the light.

Possibly just my monitor, but yes, the close-up is somewhere between mint green and chartreuse for me.

Is there a definitive answer to the question: "Should I cut back all the dead roots when re-potting?"
