If you cross with only one miniature as a parent, do you always get small flowers?

Glen, I learned with mini roses that you will almost always get a certain percentage of larger flowers, even if both parents are minis -- although your chances of getting minis certainly increase if both parents are minis. I'm trying to bring the size and scale down by crossing the biggies with the little ones, but it will take time.

Betty is correct about crossing the little ones, you just never know what will come from a cross.
Really like the first one and the last three Betty, all three have teeth which will probably increase with later blooms.

This is the only seedling that I have with the pod parent being Tet Thin Ice, you would never know is has DD as the pollen parent by looking at it.

Since we didn't have shows this year here because of the regional meeting and lack of blooms even if we did I decided to pollinate all my MINIS and SMALLS in my show bed. These blooms are 2.25" to 3.25" and I've been putting whatever I am pollinating with that day on them so who knows what I may get. Some of the pollen parents have been 4" all the way to 9"or 10". There's no rhyme or reason in what I used on them just what was in my hand. One reason I decided to do this was because some things still aren't blooming or just started to scape from the late start to the season plus it didn't seem like anything else was setting so I figured the more things pollinated the better chance of getting some pods this year.

I can't get over how gorgeous those whites are, Fred! And I'm so glad that you have that beautiful tet seedling from TET LILLIAN'S THIN ICE as the pod parent before it went kaput. And I seem to remember you have one or two other beautiful seedlings out of TET LILLIAN'S THIN ICE used as the pollen parent too. I'm excited about the 2015 intro, and I'm hopeful for the tet as a future intro from you too. Fantastic!

And thank you for your input on my seedlings, Fred -- I really love the colors in that first one of mine, plus it seems to have good substance. And at least for now I'm probably going to keep up to about a dozen of the ones showing some toothiness, as they do look great in the garden. My favorite so far is the one I've nicknamed "YELLOW FANG".

Ooh Michele, can't wait to see what you'll come up with from your mini/biggie crosses next year! That was a great idea for you to blitz your minis/smalls with pollen from the biggies. And do you have any of Liz Salter's wonderful minis with the great patterns? I think of you and Kim as real "pattern masters" and really love to see your pictures of all the incredible seedlings you-all are coming up with! I just really started thinking about patterns this year when I got ANGEL LOVE and WAVES OF JOY, so I have lots of catching up to do!

"Pattern Masters"..... I don't know about that but we shall see what we get. No I do not have any of Liz Salter's minis. I really wasn't breeding for small/minis but just thought I would since the lack of pod set on other stuff. I really only have the small/minis for show flowers but will put some in Kim's hybridizing area for next year for her to use

What a great edge and color, Michele .... do you know if your seedling is an evergreen or semi-evergreen?

Here are my two:

Fanciful Finery x Ladybug's Two Moons

Sings the Blues x Little Wild Flower

I'm not really sure what the second one is ... a UF? The petals stand up all day (85 degrees - tho maybe it was weather related or FFO-related) and they do not have obvious crimping to them to explain why they stay up ... could just be the narrower ends near the throat? The petals seem a bit spatulate to me, too.

I have no idea since it didn't bloom last year and it's in a pot right now (never got around to planting it) and I really didn't pay much attention to it until it bloomed. If I keet it then it would be next year before I really paid attention to the details of it (I would look this winter to see foliage though)

Cool - same here regarding first winters (didn't know if it was an older seedling). I'm glad to hear, also, that you don't bother to track the first winter - they are so small and so many of them ... I'm not sure any notes would hold true of a mature fan. What fun it seems, now, to be able to start following details (scapes, branching, possibly changing forms or colors, etc).
