This is the 2014 Hosta of the Year as chosen by the Hosta Growers Association. This particular photo shows the excellent contrast between the variegated green edge and the gold middle. The center of the leaf will start off more chartreuse and turn more and more gold as the season progresses.
Notice also the small brown spots on the leaves at 7 and 8 o'clock in the picture. That is Spring Dessication caused by drying Spring winds and sunlight before the trees have leafed out. Notice that it only occurs on the gold parts of the plant. Frances Williams is notorious for this dessication, but many other gold varieties can have this in a dry and windy Spring season.
