As far as I can determine, A. 'Maharani' is a hybrid of A. reginula and A. rugosa - i don't know who did the hybrid but the two parents are very similar genetically so I expect the progeny to be fertile. The blooms of the small "jewels" like this one do not have very much pollen, but they do produce some. The pollen usually drops the second day after the bloom opens. The first day is when the female flowers are receptive to pollen.

Hope this helps,
LariAnn

Thanks!

I missed the pollen twice then.. maybe the third and fourth bloom will give me more luck..

Is the pollen shed at night or in the morning? does it matter?
