Watering Your Strawberry Jars

Getting your strawberry jars established with the soil intact can be challenging. I have tried various methods, such as using some coir (coconut fiber) or sphagnum moss around the transplants to hold the soil in the ports. The best method I've found is to inset a watering pipe into the center of the container as follows:

This works great. I have used it for years. If you have trouble holding the pipe straight just place some gravel or small rocks (about 2 inches deep) inside the pipe, and you should also cover up the bottom of the pipe with plastic attached with a wire or rubber band so that the water will flow out into the pot rather than straight down and out.
