Hi professorp, Welcome! to All Things Plants from me too!

A few suggestions for full sun locations:

A pretty flowering vine that should work well would be the American Wisteria ... the Asian variety is quite invasive in this country so I'd shy away from that one but the American variety is wonderful.
American Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens)
American Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens 'Blue Moon')
American Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls')

Another fast grower is Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) and although our database here lists it as hardy to zone 7 I believe it grows as far north as zone 4 or 5: Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia)

And, how about the Trumpet Vine?
Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans)
Crimson Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans 'Flamenco')
Yellow Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans 'Flava')

or Cross Vine (Bignonia capreolata)

Chocolate Vine:
Five-Leaf Chocolate Vine (Akebia quinata)
