I had a merchandise credit from Gilbert H Wild. I ordered Carolina Pansy Face and paid for the shipping. I received the order as promised and it included a bonus fan of Rosy Returns. The Carolina Pansy Face fan was very very small but it was cheap compared to the Browns Ferry price. I paid $18.00 and Browns Ferry has it for around $50.00. I laughed at the bonus fan of Rosy Returns...it looked dead. I complained to the company and they suggested it was just dry due to shipping and to plant it and it should bloom in the spring. I will give it a try but I'm not expecting anything. Oh well at least I didn't pay for it.

Looks pretty dead, even if it comes back it probably won't bloom for 1-2 years!
Carolina Pancy Face looks tiny.
That why I don't order from G&W.
I would stick to a reliable daylily grower.

Well, I must confess that I have let some newly dug up or received fans sit long enough for their fans to turn a yellowish-brown somewhat like your first photo. (I didn't do it intentionally, they were overlooked when I was amending a bed.) I went ahead and planted them anyway. Of 6 daylilies that this happened to, only one has yet to sprout new leaves. So it is definitely worth planting (with fingers crossed).

How did the roots look on all of them? A good root system?

I have to agree with Ashton. Looking at your 2 photos, I would probably be disappointed with my order.

I was very disappointed with the order, but I had a credit that I needed to use. I complained to the company and they said that they didn't have any larger fans of the Carolina Pansy Face, and the Rosy Returns was dry from shipping. They said that I could return the order...at my own expense, which I declined. I was not willing to spend any more money on small, nonviable, dead looking plants. The roots on both were very small and on the Rosy Returns they were dry as well. The Carolina Pansy Face just looks too small....they should have held it for at least another year. I will never order from them again.

Well, don't give up yet. Wilds does send small plants, I have ordered from them a few times. I had a couple of plants that I thought would never make it, but now they are growing like they should. If it comes back around, I would not be surprised that it will bloom in the spring! I never received plants from them in July, so it might be different. I buy the plants because they are cheap, and I have had really good luck with them growing, and blooming that season. I have never lost a plant from Wilds so far but yours could be the exception.

Well, I think we have all dealt with a nursery that we were dissatisfied with. I just chalk it up to live and learn. Considering this nursery's attitude, I hope you actually got the daylily cultivars they say they sent you. Glare Confused I have read from several members here how they got a NOID daylily with an order from various nurseries and didn't know it until it bloomed.

I went ahead and pot planted it...but I'm not expecting much. I have not had good luck with GHW. I had the merchandise credit because my first order last seaon had a few plants that did not make. They would not give me a refund so I had to order something. It was particularly disheartening after receiving my order from Maryott's on the same day. I order three cultivars, and received two bonus plants...all huge and healthy. See below for a comparison.

I just wrote up an order from Maryott's, looked so promising, then I added up the freight on all those BOGO fans and the freight was over 40 dollars. I just could not pull the trigger...but I may go back and do it yet. I am now looking at the nine dollar plants with no BOGO so I can get more variety and not so many of one plant. Really a single Double Fan is enough for me, especially looking at how large the fans are when shipped! One thing about it, the freight on those big plants really mounts up fast at 2.00 a pop plus the regular shipping fee. Yes, I am cheap, but am on a budget.

Yep, the shipping is high but once I saw the size of the fans, I was happy. I will be ordering from Maryotts again. One of the bonus plants, Sign Language, had three large fans. I will never order from GHW again.

I can't believe it....after a few weeks it looks like Rosy Returns is not dead, I can't believe those dried looking sticks have started to show some greenery.

I wonder if in two years you will be able to tell which plants came from different vendors, just by looking at the plants. Normally, the small ones grow larger and the large ones grow smaller due to the conditions found in the average garden. Will the small stunted plant remain stunted, will the huge goliath plants stay that way? Something to keep an eye on.

I will keep my eyes on that....I'm just on my second year of trying to grow daylilies and have a lot to learn. I was sure that Rosy would not return.

I am still waiting for my 1 fan of Free Wheelin I got from Wild's to bloom. At least it grew this year to near blooming size. I will probably not buy from them again.

My bonus was an iris not something I grow.

Claudia, I do not plan to order from them either. I had a credit from them for last year's non bloomers. My first order from them they sent an iris as a bonus as well. The cultivars that I purchased from ebay all bloomed and performed very well. I hope that my Maryott's order perform as well next spring.

I was so pleased with my order from Maryott's that I plan on placing another in the fall. My first order was Bright in the NIght, Sailing at Dawn, and Kaanapali Coast..... Mineral Springs and Sign Language were my bonus plants. I plan on getting Marily Morss Johnson, The Band Played On, and Spanish Fiesta in the fall. I hope they perform well in my area. The summers in zone 8 are long, hot and humid.

That's true to its name, Rosy's returned fo real!

I can see why you are disappointed.
I bought the very first fans the past year and thinking back at my orders the fans were really big and healthy. At the time I dodn't know what I should expect, but I'm glad to understand that the nursery I bought from is reliable.

Cybersix, did your Maryott's cultivars from last season bloom and if so were you pleased?

Pat I wish I could have maryott's DLs but I'm in Italy and I can't! I'm talking about a local nursery!
