"Siloam Double Classic" is a double bloom, dormant diploid introduced in 1985 by Pauline Henry of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She registered 490 cultivars over a 37 year period. She passed away in 2000 (at the age of 92).

5", diamond-dusted, fully double blossoms are soft peachy-pink with a yellow halo and green throat. Petals have perfect pie crust edges; sepals are smooth. Renowned for its incredible sweet fragrance. Blooms in early to midsummer. Extended bloom--flowers last at least 16 hrs. each. Recommended for everyone--grows well everywhere except in the deep south. Diploid. This is considered a "Designer" Daylily, which means that it has been selected as highly performing plant with exceptional bloom performance, substantive, vibrantly colored flowers, complete winter hardiness in northern zones, and a vigorous habit.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Siloam Double Classic')

I received three fans this year and planted them this spring. I live in Houston. Because they were little, I've had no blooms yet. Two are still hanging in there. With the last couple weeks near or over 100 degrees, one has all but disappeared. I think with our summer heat, I would have done better to plant in the fall and not early summer. I water most everyday, but new plants really struggle with our heat here and these are in mostly sun.
I can't wait for this to bloom -hopefully next year. I love the classic ruffled daylily and am looking forward to blooms next year so I can see the flowers in person.

I no longer own SDC,It is very pretty but is short and has very soft and fragile blooms.

I received this plant from Teresa (tgarden711) this past May. It produced 8 buds on 2 scapes right away and bloomed the middle of June. It recently bloomed again a month later (only 1 small scape with 2 beautiful blooms). I was surprised it rebloomed as a new transplant currently in a nursery pot. (It will be planted in a raised garden bed very soon.)

Being a double, I wasn't quite sure how to set a pod on it and the pollen was questionable. Perhaps it will be easier once it settles in for a year and multiplies. My area has had high temps and high heat index (111 degrees on one day), but we have had a lot of rain, so it has hung in there and even produced new leaves, though still only 2 fans.

I must say I was quite taken with the petite blooms that look more like a carnation or peony than a daylily. I can see why it is such a popular cultivar. It does have a nice scent, too!



I hope it continues to survive in my garden and handles our year round mild temperatures without any issues. And another possible excellent feature is that I have not seen any rust on the leaves so far at all! A good cultivar for southern gardens as well as northern gardens.

It is a fabulous easy to grow daylily that never fails to bloom beautifully and we'll. Multiplies at a decent rate. Highly recommended.

I bought SDC in 2011 and am not sure how many fans it has now, but it has increased to a large clump that needs dividing. I will have to report later on branching and bud count (it's too dark outside now, lol!)

The blooms are so perfect and beautiful, I almost hate to say this, but I do not like that it blooms down in the foliage. I know some folks have said that they cut the foliage down so the blooms will show, but I have not done this. For me, blooming down in the foliage is a deal breaker, so I probably won't keep this one much longer.

Edited to add: Now that it's light out, I have counted buds: 2-3 way branching and at the most 10 buds per scape.

I have grown Siloam Double Classic for several years. It is dependable, blooms early for me and then reblooms. The flowers are nicely double and what I consider a pretty color. But there is nothing spectacular about it. It does not have the wow factor of many newer daylilies. I would say it is a good garden plant but if I were buying today, I would not add it to my collection. Of course I am not digging it up either, yet.

Vickie - I know you like daylilies with tall scapes, so I can see where this one would disappoint you. Thanks for your honest evaluation and also scape branching with bud count!

plantilus - Thank you for your performance evaluation! I can see where many of the newer double cultivars would be so much more improved over many of the older cultivars.

Good comments made here! ..... I hadn't noticed the height of the scape of mine compared to the foliage height. Mine is still pretty new and small. So far, the blooms on mine are registered size and being a double type bloom with that lighter peach-pink color, they do stand out for me but foliage is still just two fans for now so hard to tell how the blooms will appear once there is a clump. I think they are in the category of container or border daylily plant.

I bought this plant 4/23/15 from a local nursery. It was in a one gallon pot and had many unopened buds. I was advised to cut off all the blooms and take it out of the pot and plant it bare root. I just couldn't make myself do that until I could at least see the first bloom! I let several of the blooms open and they were beautiful. The picture below is it still in the pot. Around mid-May I did do as advised and cut off the remaining scapes and planted it in the garden bare rooted. It immediately started to grow and I got another bloom cycle! Those blooms were not as big as the first ones, but were still nice. It's been very hot and dry here, but the plant still looks good and I am expecting a nice plant and blooms next year.


I see that my bloom looks much pinker than the ones others posted. However, Siloam Double Classic is what was on the plant tag and my bloom is the same as what was on the tag.

I am not a fan of short scapes but Siloam Double Classic is an exception because it is one of the early bloomers in my garden. I always use it in hybridizing and because of that it only produced 5 buds per scape this year with its 2 way branching. It bloomed a long time but I don't know how that was possible with only 5 buds unless scapes were developing at different time intervals or I may have had some instant rebloom. It does increase rather easily and is very hardy, even on the hottest of days here. I most definitely will always have it in my garden.

SILOAM DOUBLE CLASSIC in my garden

I bought Siloam Double Classic from Browns Ferry about ten years ago. It was the first double daylily that I ever bought. It is a very reliable daylily. My plant had over 70 flowers this year. I have divided it at least three times.

I don't have Siloam Double Classic; I bought Siloam Peony Display, instead and the little devil didn't bloom for me this year. Maybe I should have chosen Double Classic!

I grew this daylily in zone 10, where it began blooming in May or June, depending on the weather, and almost continually bloomed until Aug./Sept. It was not dormant in zone 10. Instead, it was what I would describe as semi-dormant. It was tough and lovely! One of my favorites. I sent some fans to friends in Charlotte N.C., Montgomery, Al., and San Antonio, Tx. They bloomed for them within 2 - 3 months. They are all delighted with Siloam Classic Double.

Then we moved to north FL in zone 8. In late fall of 2013 my cousin, whom I had sent fans to in San Antonio, sent me some fans for my new garden here so SDC came full circle. However, this June was an absolute beast with zero rain & extraordinarily high temperatures for the entire month. I believe I have lost her. I'm still waiting to see if she will show up during September.

Siloam Double Classic grew here for about a dozen years ( along with the entire Stout Medal collection) I dug up all of my SSM winners and gave them to my daylily club in the early 2000's when we wanted to create an AHS Display Garden. They're still out at that Display Garden! I kept double fans of a few that I liked best, and Sm. Db. Classic was one, but it eventually left here At one time, there was also a large collection of Pauline Henry's daylilies of at least 50 of her plants ( started that back in the 1990's) but those were dug up and sent to a collector of her plants in Arkansas. I grew a lot of her doubles and her minatures/ small flowers and that's probably when I grew to love and appreciate miniatures.

Siloam Double Classic was a great daylily for it's time, and people raved about the color. It won the Stout Medal in 1993, and was only the second double daylily to win the Stout. ( David Kirchhoff's BETTY WOODS was the first) The color is entrancing, and I always loved the bloom substance too. The scapes are short, and IN THIS CLIMATE - can't speak for other parts of the country - it generally produces single blooms early in the season, but then begins doubling when the temperature warms up a bit. ( Side note: have been proof reading Scott Elliott's new book on Double daylilies recently and found his chapter about "why doubles don't always double" very informative on this subject. Book will hopefully be out late this fall)

I grew this one for several years. I fell in love with all the photos I saw of this daylily. While it grew well with good increase, mine did not double as much or as pretty. I mostly had single blooms on the very short scapes. I eventually sent it to a new home. Whenever I see a really good photo I am tempted to try it again. I resist that temptation hard as it is.

I planted Siloam Double Classic in 2012. It has been a slow grower for me, but it doesn't always get water reliably and our summers have been hot the past couple years. It has bloomed for me every year and this year was the best yet. The blooms are real showstoppers!

The Siloam Double Classic is right at home in my zone 5a garden. I bought it at a nursery going out of business sale in 2012 and it almost died in the pot before I finally got it in the ground. I was a bit disappointed when it bloomed the next year because I was expecting it to be the same soft pink that had bloomed in the pot but in my garden's soil it was a very pale peach color. It is still blooming as a peach hue which I have now grown to love. It starts to bloom on the earlier side of the daylily season and it has put out one of it's last blooms just today. That is longer than most of my other daylilies and that alone endears it to me :)

This is one tough little DL but it looks so delicate and pretty. It is in the front border of one of my gardens and the small plant size is perfect for that spot. None of the blooms have been lost to view within the foliage either. The scapes are not higher than the foliage but they show just fine. Perhaps if I watered more and fertilized consistently then the foliage would be thick enough to hide the flowers. Who would have thought that a little (ahem) neglect could be a positive thing? I plan to keep the SDC as long as it wants to grow here in my garden! It puts up with me!

I have had Siloam Double Classic for at least five years. As I recall, it was a little bit of a slow starter, but is doing fantastic now. I guess it may depend upon the amount of rain it gets - some years the blooms are peachy-pink and other years show much more pink. I love it. I like tall scapes too, but when you have close to 200 varieties, you need to have shorter ones to plant in front of the tall ones.
