I let my african violet go dry while out of town and it lost half it's leaves -the lower ones. Is there something you do to make it look right when it's this 'trunk' with only the upper most leaves? Do the lower ones grow back? It used to be so full and pretty.

My thoughts would be just to keep it moderately moist like you would have normally... Fertilize if necessary, and let nature do its work I'm no professional, mind you... I just would assume regular care would bring it right back to normal.
cut off the dead and repot and keep it moist . also while you are repotting scrape the neck and put the soil mix to the where the bottom leaves should be and make sure you cover the neck . if I can be of any further help let me know .
Lynne, I totally agree with goodgirl/KittyT. When that happens with African Violets you can re-pot and bury the plant deeper. A couple of good tutorials and photos are shown here:
Thanks a bunch for your recommendations. I replanted him today and planted him deeper. Looks so much better and he probably needed the new potting mix. Thanks again.
