Polly requested a thread for Gloriosas, sometimes called upsidedown lilies. Glory Lily, and Climbing Lily:

Thank you for posting these, I just love them! Even the leaves on the vines are so nice looking.

How many different varieties do you have?

And what are you doing with all the extras? You surely didn't plant them all? Have you decided to start selling yet?

Those always look so pretty, though I have never had any luck growing them myself. Yours look quite robust jmorth.

They are sure putting on a nice show. Love the hummingbird too. I haven't tried gloriosa lilies and don't know if they would grow here.

Tracey, I had never had luck with them either. So when JMorth offered me some last year, I said no thank you. Then this year, I asked him if he had any for sale, as I do love them, and I got a few from Jack. They were very large, compared to what I had ever received before, and all sprouted and are doing well. So, I think those little bitty ones you buy commercially might not have enough oomph in them to flower. I don't know for sure. But I've sure had excellent luck with the ones from Jack.

Picture of mine will be soon, they're covered with buds.

Isn't that amazing! Just look at the size of them. The first ones I tried were probably 1/10 that size.

And did you plant all you didn't share?

I think the one I tried was about the size if a lima bean. It looked so beautiful, but it didn't mount to anything. Perhaps that's the problem, the size of what I started with. Do they require special soil conditions? They look really neat in your masses jmorth.

Reviewing record from May reveals there were 345 tubers from 18 large and very large containers. Of these, about 200 were repotted into 13 of the biggest pots/containers, remainder were shared with friends and a couple placed in the ground. There are two varieties present G. rothschildiana (red/yellow) and G. greenii (yellowish green). Started out with 2 tubers from Missouri Botanical Garden about a dozen years ago. (a couple of Greenii were added a few years back, they've expanded to 15 or so).
It took me a couple of weeks to re-pot them all.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Beautiful, haven't had much luck with these. I planted 6 red and this year only 1 came up. I checked the pots and nothing. Last year I purchased 4 green, so far only 2 came up. They were very small when I received them. I think my problem last year on the red was I didn't let them dry out. My area is very very wet.....

I think the problem then is the size. Mine were huge compared to a lima bean. I potted them in regular potting mix along with other plants and every single one came up.
