Ok, here we go! This gets a bit complicated near the end but I've drawn pictures to try and make it a bit easier and it helps if you have someone to help you out.

Here are Steps 1 & 2

Get some clear tubing from the pet store, you should be able to find the one you need with the reptile supplies, you want one that is nice and narrow. I think mine is about a quarter inch. Now cut two peices of tubing appox to the size of your pot holder, it helps if your pot or pot holder has either a rim or slightly wider towards the top so the tubing has something to grip.

Next cut two peices of heavy gauge fishing line, make these quite long....3 or 4 feet is good. You can always trim later. Thread the fishing line through the clear tubing. See picture.

Step 3

Now this is the tricky part, lay the two peices of tubing threaded with line next to each other on the table and thread the line from tubeA into the corresponding opening on tubeB and out the other end.........I've only drawn one peice of line in the picture so you can see how it goes

Step 4

Do the same with both peices of line threading them through the opposing tubes, and you shoud have a loop that you can fit your pot into. Ive added the second line in picture3. Now gather your loose ends, tie in a knot at the ends and you have a plant hanger!

I hope that this will be of some help, it may seem confusing to read but give it a try and I'm sure you will get it right, it does help if you have someone with you to hold the loose ends of the fishing line so they don't get mixed up.

Any questions please feel free to ask!

Here is a picture of the finished product in use!

What do you use for the "hangers"?

I assumed additional fishing line was used to hang it?

Yes the additional line is used to hang it, just tie the ends in a good solid knot and hang it on a hook, nail ect.

Lee Anne, could you rephrase your question Big Grin I'm feeling a bit thick here *Blush*

Ahhhh- see, I missed out by clicking straight through from the random new threads on the front page!

Steven, could you possibly edit the first post and link back to the pic? I wouldn't want anyone else to miss out on this very cool idea!!

Linda, fishing line is gauged for weight. I would suggest buying line that is at least 10 pounds heavier than your planned plant since water is going to increase the weight, & fishing line degrades slowly as well.

I've recently seen some pretty expensive metal "adjustable" pot hangers in catalogs that seem to be pretty similar in design. I like the braided fishing line for things like this -- less invisible, but it doesn't stretch. (I like it better for fishing, too.)

I'm going to give this a try.
Thanks for the tutorial!

I am laughing at myself. Since I have been cooking all morning I thought this was about making a potholder for using in the kitchen. Rolling on the floor laughing
Now that I have read the entire thread I understand, yes, this is a good and useful idea. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
I may even hang some plants in the kitchen. Thumbs up

Just a quick tip.... if you use or know someone (or have access to a hospital etc.) that uses oxygen you can use oxygen tubing for this project also.... almost exactly like aquarium tubing.
I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying
