KD, I'm no expert and hope someone more knowledgeable comes by with a better answer, but I think an herb is a plant that is used for cooking, healing, and other possible home and garden purposes.

This is a large subject - could you start a thread asking your question again?

Dave, thank you for this forum - there is nothing like being in an herb garden when the sun strikes all those aromatic leaves, releasing their fragrances all around you. Now, maybe I'll find some help on how to do it Sticking tongue out

Herbs are the leaves of plants - used for food, flavoring, medicinal use and fragrance.

Spices are the dried and sometimes ground, seeds/berries/fruits and bark - used for flavoring.

My concept of the term 'herb' has expanded considerably since I converted my vegetable garden to an herb garden and began researching herbs. In addition to the common culinary (parsley, sage, etc..) and medicinal (echinacea, arnica, horehound, etc.) herbs, I am finding that many many plant parts (flowers, leaves, bark, roots) can be used for various things. I'm having fun experimenting with salves and lotions, which are quite easy to create - and much more cost effective than those age-defying concoctions sold at cosmetic counters.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
