I enjoy growing Cordylines in Central Fl, but find growers here few and far between. Any others interested in these remarkable plants.

Anne, There are hundreds of different Ti out there. You will only see maybe a dozen or so choices available here on the mainland. That Cordyline is 'Keelys Golden'. and it came from Hawaii a few years ago. You may be asking yourself "Why is that golden word in the name?" Here is the color that this Cordyline will take on when the weather cools.

Anne, I have Keeley's Gold, I too got it from a private grower on the Big Island who is no longer in business. He named it after his daughter. It is the slowest growing Ti I have ever grown. What has your experience been Scott?

I have had the plant for 3 yrs now. The plant is right about 3' tall now. I purchased this as a small plant from Hawaii "www.vintagegreenfarms.com"

Drat Scott, you got the good Ti. Mine has never gotten taller than 12". Tampa is much warmer in the winter so I suspect it does not like my marshy soil which can be chilly and damp in winter. It has always been outdoors. We used to have a Big Island grower who was active here on the site, she put me in touch with the breeder of this one. I don't remember it being vintage green farms but the name might have changed, I bought mine in 2007.

Welcome, Scott and you sure do have some pretty Ti varieties.

It's such a common landscape plant here that I'd never thought of there being a lot of cultivars. I've seen so many of the dark red, and the pretty pink/cream/green one is in my garden. Wonder if its ease of propagation makes it not such a profitable plant to cultivate for sale?

Plus if the rare cultivars turn out to be slow growing, a lot of people wouldn't want them. We're so spoiled here, when everything generally grows so very fast - throw it in the ground and jump back!

Got a kick out of the Spanish Moss for $10, I think I could make a mint if I marketed mine.

I really love the Ti plants too; I make leis, so they come in handy and I am trying to get a selection going in my yard. I'd love a piece of that Keely's Golden and Princess Lesha!!! Let me know if you're willing to trade any time.
I find they root very easily from a 6" stick in a glass of water; I then transfer into a pot with soil and once well established they go straight into the ground.

I just splurged and ordered more Keeley's Gold from the place mentioned above. Their shipping charges are very reasonable, less in fact than most stateside places. Since my Keeley never grew much, perhaps it is a stunted strain. I am going to try another and see if it does better.

I've been wanting the 'common' green Ti which is found all over the islands but is not popular here; mainly because it's plain, but I like it for leis because it has big leaves... so I've ordered some of that as well.

Beautiful, I've never seen them made with twisted Ti leaves before. Very interesting.
