Thread OP

Hi, Im new to the forum and glad to have found it. I live in Costa Rica in the mountains. I bought this plant at a nursery as "bonsai natural", which doesnt help at all. I tried a bonsai forum without luck. It grows strait branches, has little leaves, and grows in levels. Thr branches of one level grow in the same place around the plant then grows taller and adds another level. This is not trained. They make little white flowers then a half inch fruit thats like a blueberry shape but green. I dont know what color a mature fruit is. Thanks for looking, I have lots of unnamed plants and small trees. Some are for bonsai, most are just decorative plants. I can post lots more if you want to see. Thanks again for your time.

Hi eferguson, Welcome! to All Things Plants from me too!

I bet if you can upload a few photos here someone would be able to give you an exact ID. One plant I was thinking might be a possibility is Natal Plum (Carissa macrocarpa)

Carissa is sometimes used for Bonsai; check out some of these images for comparison: http://www.bing.com/images/sea...

I think if we look at the clues, it's a naturally growing plant with no training as happens with bonsai.

Clues:

"Straight branches"

"grow in the same place around the plant" suggests branches radiate in a circular fashion around the trunk, with a gap, then another set of radiating branches.

"little leaves"

"white flowers"

" half inch fruits .. blueberry shape .. green"

A suggestion, although the leaves don't look small, a plant which has been bonsaied will have small leaves even if the normal tree has large leaves.
