'Wild One' joined my garden in late summer 2014, and did not bloom at all in summer 2015 nor did the clump seem to grow much at all. I'll move it this year, and see if it makes a difference in its performance. Sorry I can't be of more help with this Daylily of the Day!

You are the only person I see who has this plant in a very hot climate, it seems most people who have this dormant are up north. I will be looking forward next year to your report, seems a lot of people just recently got this plant. I love how the blooms look in the photos, but will wait for a report and especially a report on the rust resistance. How is it looking so far?

I have had this one for years but it only gets about 5hrs direct sun/day where it is so my report may not be the norm. Very slow to grow. Color is rich/saturated especially the blush. It is fertile.

Larry - I was hoping someone from the south who has had this plant for awhile would post their evaluation as I, too, am curious to know how it does in a warmer climate.

I received a small clump of 5 fans from Susan (stilldew) at the end of August of this year. It went into a pot initially until the new raised bed was completed and then was transplanted to it's new home. It's looked great since I received it. I did note that it was listed as a dormant. But since Susan was selling it very cheap, I figured it was worth trying because I absolutely love the blooms in the photos that I have seen. (I totally agree with you, Vickie!) I am hoping that it is not a hard dormant and does well here. So far, so good!

I've had an infestation of aphids attacking all my daylilies the past few weeks. I need to spray with some soapy water, but have not had the time. I hope to do that while I am off over the holidays. It has held up better than most against the aphid attack. Not sure why. It seems to have narrow leaves, so maybe the aphids prefer wider, juicier leaves?

It is planted at the very back corner of the new raised bed and has been under some partial shade from an invasive tree growing in the next door neighbor's yard. I've called the city to ask that the tree be trimmed away from my power lines and property. I hope it gets done soon. Despite the partial shade, this cultivar has seemed robust and remained green and appears very healthy (much to my surprise). If it is true dormant, I've not seen it hit that phase yet. Here are 2 photos taken of it today. My weather/temps have been in the low 80s with sunshine. This is not a typical winter for me. About 10 degrees or more warmer than normal. Maybe this cultivar thinks it is still summer? Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

All I can say is so far, so good! I hope to see blooms this Spring/Summer. Will add more info to this thread as I observe more data on it.

We have had two days in a row with frosts and freezing temps, but I was out looking today to see if I could distinguish between dormants and evergreens, but so far I can't. I had aphids a week or so ago, and sprayed with soapy water, might have been the cold, but I saw no sign of them today.

Does anyone know if Gilbert H Wild is the hybridizer of this cultivar?

There's an article in the Summer 2014 Daylily Journal about the history of the Wild family which goes back five generations to the 1800's.
Wild, by itself, is listed as Allen J. Wild in the hybridizer code, Allen was the son of Gilbert H. Wild.

Awesome! I did not catch this. It was brought to my attention by jmorth who just happened to read my initial post and took my challenge about who the hybridizer was for this cultivar! Thank you, J ...for putting me on the right track. And many thanks to Char and Cindy for verifying it! Thumbs up An acorn to each of you!

Due to my limited garden space I no longer have "Wild One" The coloring is so unique that I never knew what color would be more prevalent from one day to the next. Nice size blooms and such a charming daylily. I'm sorry I no longer grow but I'm sure I'll bring it back to my garden someday.

Since obtaining 5 fans of this cultivar in September 2015 and then transplanting it into a raised bed in October 2015, it has since bloomed this year ( Mid-May of 2016). It produced a scape from each fan. And each scape had 4-5 buds on it. No re-bloom. It is by far my favorite blooming daylily of 2016! I love the bloom colors and it put on a beautiful display when blooming several flowers at once.

It is now Fall 2016 as I write this and it has not increased. It remains at 5 fans. I did set a number of pods on it, so I hope I get some nice seedlings from those seeds. Oh, another thing .... it was in much more shade than I originally intended because of a neighbor's large tree, but it still seemed to perform quite nicely despite that fact. And it shows rust resistance! It is a keeper in my garden!

This is truly one wild daylily. In my garden it changed colors throughout the day. Beautiful plant. Nice big blooms but I did give it away as it was slow to increase.

I have heard so many people compliment Wild One and have wanted it. This summer, I went to a town festival and a local person was selling daylilies at a booth. I was very excited to see that she had Wild One, so I got it. Can't wait to see it in bloom in 2017!

I planted Wild One in May 2022. No flowers this summer and it ended the season with one slightly rusty fan. I sure hope this survives the winter!

@Seedfork, I have Wild One, and I have been pleased with it. I bought it because of the pictures of its dramatic blooms, huge and vivid in shades of orange, red, and yellow. Based on the other reviews, I was expecting it to take awhile to settle in, but to my pleased surprise, it bloomed in its second season (2021). It is slow to increase, but it has held its own since then and has bloomed again this year. It is not a profuse bloomer, but the flowers are worth waiting for, in my opinion. It has not shown a speck of rust.

I am adding a note on July 24, 2023, to say that this summer, Wild One rebloomed for me.

2023 update…what a great plant! Wild One bloomed from July 5-29 with 25 blooms. It ended the season with 6 fans…that's from starting April with one. That is pretty quick increase here! The blooms are fantastic, huge and crazy colored. This doesn't look like anything else, very unique.
