Larry - I was hoping someone from the south who has had this plant for awhile would post their evaluation as I, too, am curious to know how it does in a warmer climate.
I received a small clump of 5 fans from Susan (stilldew) at the end of August of this year. It went into a pot initially until the new raised bed was completed and then was transplanted to it's new home. It's looked great since I received it. I did note that it was listed as a dormant. But since Susan was selling it very cheap, I figured it was worth trying because I absolutely love the blooms in the photos that I have seen. (I totally agree with you, Vickie!) I am hoping that it is not a hard dormant and does well here. So far, so good!
I've had an infestation of aphids attacking all my daylilies the past few weeks. I need to spray with some soapy water, but have not had the time. I hope to do that while I am off over the holidays. It has held up better than most against the aphid attack. Not sure why. It seems to have narrow leaves, so maybe the aphids prefer wider, juicier leaves?
It is planted at the very back corner of the new raised bed and has been under some partial shade from an invasive tree growing in the next door neighbor's yard. I've called the city to ask that the tree be trimmed away from my power lines and property. I hope it gets done soon. Despite the partial shade, this cultivar has seemed robust and remained green and appears very healthy (much to my surprise). If it is true dormant, I've not seen it hit that phase yet. Here are 2 photos taken of it today. My weather/temps have been in the low 80s with sunshine. This is not a typical winter for me. About 10 degrees or more warmer than normal. Maybe this cultivar thinks it is still summer?
All I can say is so far, so good! I hope to see blooms this Spring/Summer. Will add more info to this thread as I observe more data on it.
