Instead of putting these on the thread of Mexican orchids, I thought to just start a new one and show what mine look like blooming, mounted on the cork (some), and what kinds I have.
The piece of cork is big; that is a gallon jug under it.
That's funny, Anna. You mount your plants on the smooth side and I mount all of mine on the rough side. Not only do I do it because I think the rough side has a more interesting surface to view but also that allows me (or a customer) to put the cork on a flat surface rather than hanging. There is normally a curvature, particularly with a large slab of cork, and putting the smooth surface down gives a more stable surface for counter, shelf, or table presentation.
Just a few of what I have mounted are shown and also, this is what a large slab of cork looks like.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.
Ken, a couple are mounted on the smooth side because I had my head up my posterior and forgot I had done my first ones on the "bark" side. Several months had elapsed between the first and second "projects" and I did not go back and look. Why should I? I KNEW what I was doing.
It really doesn't matter a whit which side the plants are mounted on. They just love to grow on cork. Believe me, I have plenty of those moments too. The older I get, the more these "lapses" occur.
