Persian Ruby is one of my favorite daylilies! In my zone 5b freeze/ thaw garden it preforms so well. It's one of the few daylilies I will not be without. I've never had a problem with it. The only negative I can say about it is that it does fade a bit towards afternoon in full sun, however many deep reds do. A little afternoon shade never hurts!

Hey Jon,
This one deserves a place in the pantheon of Daylily All-Time Greats. Huge flowers of saturated color displayed well on strong scapes. It is an Excellent grower here in USDA Zone 7a. It makes seed---when crossed with something it likes. Fans are not closely bunched together to make a great clump display. I could go on and on about it!

That is a good point about the fans of certain daylilies being bunched up very close together, I had never given any thought to that.

Persian Ruby is a great daylily, here in my zone 4 garden it is not planted in an ideal location and still does very well. Someone sent it to me as a gift plant, lucky me.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

Stout runner up in 2010, 11, and 12, I believe. Alas, always a bridesmaid. Wonderful intense color. Not 30 inches here though. A fine, reliable daylily. Bud count not remarkable.

Purchased March 28, 2016, the plant is now 12-15 fans. I removed 4 dead scapes from 'Persian Ruby' this morning. The scapes averaged 29 inches tall, the blooms were almost 8 inches . The scapes only had two way branching and they averaged 10 buds per scape. I bought his plant from a fairly local daylily grower along with several other older cultivars. I asked if they would leave the soil around the roots and not trim the plants back. The photo shows what the plants looked like. I think all of these were $5.00 plants, and they have all done great, too bad daylilies can't be sold and shipped like that all the time.
