I suggest Hamamelis virginiana (Witchhazel). I have three and love them all. They grow in some of the densest shade in my yard and look fantastic. They bloom in late fall (November) when the leaves turn the most beautiful bright yellow; so the flowers are not showy, but oh that foliage. They make a lovely small tree which everyone notices and appreciates in winter as well as the rest of the year. I love the pretty scalloped leaves and the lovely sculpture the little tree makes in my wooded areas.
