Can you believe I have on the DVD play "First Flower" and look out the living room window an lo and behold my first spring flower is looking right up at me! Its a tiny purple crocus. Isn't life wonderful!?

That is really cool, Yehudith! You and SSG seem to have warmer microclimates than I do, even though we are only about half an hour away.

I found these too. They were planted around a bed in the lawn that has a rose that has never done well in it. I gave up on crocus because the squirells, rabbits, deer or what ever get to them. They come up fine and the chomp they're gone.

I think some of it has to do with a southwest exposure and the garage protruding out from the house so it sort of forms a courtyard but not quite. Its just kinda sheltered. Daffodils are coming up in the back that are planted among the trees and have buds but the ones in the front just have leaves.

Anyone elses garden showing life yet?

Yehudith, my crocuses and hellebores have been blooming for about a month now. Today I saw buds on my creeping phlox!

My regular spring crocus are in a dip and stay moist and cool. No early birds here. My crocus tommassinianus are back by a maple tree and no sign yet. I think March for them? Daffodils, some foliage, and that's about it.

I have the spring bulb shoots that started to emerge during our warm December; they just seemed to sort of stop growing when the cold snap hit, but they're still there. Nothing blooming.

The only things I have blooming are snowdrops. I have buds on my hellebore. I have spring bulb shoots sprouting also. I keep an eye on them everyday to see how they're doing.

That is the cool thing about spring....the anticipation of new growth and the joy this brings.

My crocus have been blooming for almost two months now. You can tell from the pictures the fresh looking blooms are recent and the tattered blooms have been around awhile.

They're lovely, SSG! No crocuses here yet, but hope springs eternal (or spring hopefully brings crocuses?)

Seems like the picture or a portion of it can be adjusted to fit the banner format 10:1 ratio.

My crocus tomassinianus are trying to bloom. If tomorrow is milder, I might get a nice view. But too often, they bloom during a nasty wet spell and they close up in cloudy weather.

My only, significant bloom arriving....it is trying...anyway....

Came home from work today and got out of the car and--suprise!--the crocuses were beginning to open their buds! Looked around a bit and discovered a few other early bloomers are also out now--snow drops, 'Georgia Blue' creeping Veronica, hellebores, and winter aconite.




And still some color left over from the winter from my holly and my nandina!



well, dare I think that spring has actually arrived??
