Our good friends in Germany seem to think 'Red Purple' is real, although they only have one picture.

@springcolor here is what information I find on S. 'Red Purple'. Breeder unknown / cultivar of S. tectorum / found Squaw Mountain Garden

The Squaw Mountain photos appears to be an older photo? Looks like it has been around for awhile.
Here is a photo from Mountain Crest Gardens. http://mountaincrestgardens.co...
Thank you for the other link Tim. Thumbs up

@perennialobsessions Cynda can you give us a sneak preview of what you will have new and exciting this year?

I can't merge two threads together, but I did split this thread.
It is easy to see how this can happen on a name. The names are identical in spelling, but one is a two part name. Two different breeders and separated by 24 years.

Julia, I think you are correct. The one being sold by Mountain Crest Gardens should show the spelling as S. 'Donar Rose'.
Tufted and long cilia lining the leaves.
Hen and Chick (Sempervivum 'Donar Rose')

Smooth tectorum type.
Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum tectorum 'Donarrose')

Thank you for bringing this up Julia. I will let Mountain Crest know about the correct name of their wonderful tufted sempervivum. Thumbs up

I also added a comment to both sempervivum entries in the database.

Donarrose is one of my few named cultivars. I bought it because it was bright orange and lime green when I first saw it in summer last year. My 3 rosettes are still small, but I hope they don't get two big - on sempervivumliste they wrote something about 25 cm (app. 10") - I hope this does not refer to the rosette diameter... Confused
It looked beautiful when I bought it, but currently its beauty must be hidden Inside as it is one of the worst looking semps in my collection after our mild moist winter. I was actually already thinking about replacing it this year, but maybe I will give it a try and leave it another year to grow into healthy plants of hopefully reasonnable diameter...

Michael I think it does mean 10" across a mature rosette. Can you show us a photo of your little rosettes?

Thank you for the link Paddy. Do you have either one of these?

No Lynn I don't but would love to have . So many semps so little time Rolling on the floor laughing

Michael, I hope you do keep your Donnarose. We've had similar weather here in Ireland and quite a few of my babies are in pretty bad shape too . Sighing!

At 10" diameter 1 rosette would cover about 1/4 of my plates - enough space for two smaller cultivars...I they really get that tall they might have to go to my parent's garden with plenty of space to spread...

Enclosed two fotos of the bigger rosette at about 5 cm (app. 2") diameter, one from december 2015 and one just taken two weeks ago...

And here is an older one from last september (cut out from one of my "identification fotos") showing all three rosettes.

I look forward to seeing it this summer Michael. The last photo sure has lovely soft coloring.

Paddy I know what you mean. And it's even more difficult when I an drawn to planting other types of plants that will grow in the same conditions as the semps.
Just came in from planting about 20 new plants. Whistling
