I'm looking to add a Garden Phlox to my new perennial bed when spring ever/ finally arrives here. Grumbling I have David in another bed that could be divided and moved there but was looking at Blue Paradise. Is that a variety that is recommended by you phlox lovers? Mildew resistance is important as is rich color and decent bloom time; I'm not really a pastel lover. Shorter varieties I would consider are Classic Cassis and Grenadine Dream; all three of these varieties are available to me from my Garden Club fundraiser so I would like to choose one of them. Any thoughts appreciated.

I love phlox, but we don't have Blue Paradise. I checked it out online (pretty flowers!) and it's described as mildew resistant, though of course it would be better if someone could confirm that from first hand experience. It's listed as blooming from July to September. Smiling

Blue Paradise is one I'd like to add this year too. I believe JoAnn grows them? @ge1836 isn't BP the blue variety you grow?

Yes I have several clumps here.
I never checked for mildew so I can't confirm either way.
The blooms are truly blue early in the morning.
This is Blue Paradise with Sherbet Blend, BP far left.

As the day wears on with full sun the blooms are more rose,

Gorgeous! I think you would have noticed if mildew had been a problem- the leaves would be dusted with white with brown tips, and the foliage looks great in your photos.

No mildew trouble here either!

It is not very blue though except in low-light conditions. Here are a few from last summer
This is Blue Paradise with David sporting the midday color in the late afternoon under fairly sunny conditions--

Dirt, gorgeous photos! And you are so very masterful at color harmony and textural contrast!

JoAnn, I'm surprised David gets mildew, it's touted as mildew resistant. The only one I have that ever gets mildew is an old one called Prime Minister.

You've got me convinced! Thank You!
Beautiful photos Jo Ann and Dirt; love the contrast between the white daisies, phlox and the blue. Maybe I will move some David Phlox into that bed after all to join Blue Paradise. Love the lilies too!

Aw--thank you--I've had some real hideous combinations in that area previously, so far this is a better one now--maybe I'll let it be for a while and work on some other disaster areas. I had hoped the Paradise Blue would be more blue--there is catmint, and some other stuff, at the base of all that and I do like the blue there.

Debbie, we have had this full sun stand of BP Phlox in this location for several years. It performs very well ie great fragrance, minimal mold and mildew and a reasonable rebloom with dead heading. Here it is from last season:
