Background history:

'Wild Irish' is a evergreen tetraploid introduced in 2004 by Mary and Phil Gaskins. They do their hybridizing at Gaskin Daylily Garden in Nashville, Georgia: http://gaskinsdaylilygarden.co...

Wild Irish is an early to mid-season bloomer with possible re-bloom. It is both pod and pollen fertile with 19 registered children: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

This plant can be found in the ATP Plant Database at:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Wild Irish') .

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more! I award an acorn for performance information posted to this thread.

I purchased this one from the hybridizer several years ago. Nice rich colored bloom, med-slow growth here in northern Kentucky. Pollen is good. I have not tried to set pod on it.

Love what you teach and teach what you love!

I grew Wild Irish for several years. It increased well and I found it to be fertile both as pod and pollen parent. Of course, I live in the same state as the hybridizer although I am probably about 200 miles north and a little east of the hybridizer's location.
I was particularly impressed with Wild Irish as a pod parent as it gave strong colors anywhere from purple through burgundy to red and even bright pink when cossed with anything in that same color range. As a pollen parent and crossed with a northern pink ('hard' dormant), it gave from pink through an amber/red color that was somewhat unique - at least to me. The cross with the 'hard' dormant resulted in 100% dormant seedlings although crosses with either Sev's or Ev's yielded those same two types. Out of about 25 seedlings, all but 2 had edges, many heavy edges but thinner edges too (none that I would have called "wire" edges), but teeth too. Here are some pictures of my Wild Irish seedlings:

Wild Irish has grown well here, but has been occasionally splotchy. It produces lots of buds, and really a healthy looking plant.
