Dietes Grandiflora

Grown from seed two years ago and residing in my back bedroom now. 3 flower stems spiking up. I am elated! Wish I could get it outdoors - but not yet.

I thought it would take another couple of years since it has to make a rhizome (or something bulbous.)

Yes - I will take pics. These are lovely plants.

@CarolineScott - There are several type of Dietes in the data base here. This is the one I am growing.

Butterfly Iris (Dietes grandiflora)

I don't remember how many I planted - likely 6 cells. The pot I have them in has 3 or 4 plants and I will likely up-size the pot this year.

They are tender in my zone as they are from S. Africa. During the Summer, I place them outside in full sun. I bring them in mid October and have kept them in my back bedroom now for 2 winters where they get West window sun. I also have Dierama in there with them among other tropicals and tenders.

Showing lots of color. Will likely be in full bloom in a few days. No real idea cause I have never seen one bloom before. Green Grin!

Bloom lasted for like less than 2 days. Grumbling Was gonna take a pic this morning and both blooms were done. Sighing!

I must say, it was beautiful -- while it lasted.
