Thread OP

Hi , I have been having trouble posting images correctly ( they show on ATP on their sides )

I have loaded the images from my phone (they appear upright on my phone ) onto my computer , I resize them so they don't overload the program save them to my hard drive. They look fine on my harddrive and in Irfanview when I look at them however when I post to ATP .....they upload as a sideways image . Can you please tell me what I need to do to get an image to load correctly .
Thanks

I have the same issue when I've corrected a photo's orientation with Photoshop. I'm guessing that the program used to upload the photos here at ATP must detect the original camera settings and adjusts the photo orientation when it believes a photo may be sideways. However, when the photo has already been corrected with a photo editor, the ATP system still gives it an, unneeded, 90-degree turn and the photo ends up sideways again (but in the opposite direction of the original image.) This is conjecture on my part but it fits with the problems that I have specifically with photos that I've rotated to correct the orientation.

I've been meaning to ask Dave about this for months to see if we could have the option to disable the auto-rotate when uploading images.

@Dave

Help, pretty please! Smiling

Yes and it's a problem that is difficult or impossible to fix. The problem is some software programs out there will adjust the photo but will save it in such a way that it says the photo isn't adjusted. Then my server inspects the image and sees that it's needing adjustment, so it adjusts it. But it was the 2nd time it was adjusted and now it's wrong again.

The fault is in the software package that originally shifted the image.

Any Plants Admin at ATP has the power to rotate images on the site, though, so if you have one that needs fixing, you can ask any admin and they'll be glad to do it for you.

A friend emailed me a photo he took with his phone. The photo would not 'behave' so I used this method:
I created four of the same image on my computer and used the editor to give each image a different orientation. I then upload each of the four images and deleted the three that were being 'bad'. It was a long way around but it worked.

Thanks, Dave. I suspected that was the issue. I guess I'll just continue to save an extra copy of the image in it's original sideways position after I've done the rest of edited.

Thanks so much for that info . Now I can make sure to not adjust the image coming from my phone and just allow ATP's program to do it for me .
