when I type in a day lily name Curt Hanson cultivar ( Predictable You ) it comes back as another one of his cultivars ( Unpredictable You ) I can't put this in my data base because of this, is there anything that can be done? also do you know of a good soil tester that is not to expensive that I can test mine with to see how it's doing, I don't seem to be getting the increase like I should. I'll ask 1 more question, I have planted day lilies on the west side of the house which interns does not allow them to get sun until around noon time when it would be straight up would this slow down the increase of the day lilies even though during the summer they still would be getting around 6 hrs or so of light during the summer and also cut back on the # of buds that they should have? thanks your gardening friend Charles Friant

There isn't a registered daylily called Predictable You. Does yours match 'Unpredictable You' or is it completely different?

Daylilies are said to need a minimum of six hours of sun, it's possible that is holding them back compared to if they were getting more, but it could also be nutrition, watering etc. I can't suggest a home test kit as I don't know what is available to you there but have you looked into testing by your local extension office? Some extension tests are inexpensive enough that it's not worth doing a home test, and should be more accurate. It's more expensive in some areas though.

Edited to add it looks like you'd be referred to a lab by the extension service, maybe you already knew that:

Interesting. Did he not register it? Or did it not get in the database for some reason? Or did it have to have a name change because it was too close to the other name but the web site was not updated.......??? Edit: I even did a search of the AHS database with its parentage and still nothing.

Maybe it would be a good idea to post this in the Daylilies forum, someone there may know the story.

I asked Curt last July about a problem with one of his 2009 registrations, I don't think it was Predictable You though. He said there were problems that year with registering the daylilies, I believe this was right before Kevin Walek took over the registrar position for the 2010 registration year ... and Curt hasn't gone back to correct them. I see Predictable You was a 2009 introduction/registration. I will mention it to Curt tonight and see what he says about it.

when comparing the 2009 intros on Crintonic versus the list of Curt's intros from 2009 on AHS database, the only one that is not listed at AHS was 'Predictable You'.

It seems a rename is unlikely, as it would have shown up in the AHS database under a name that was not listed on Curt's site, methinks.
