I planted snow peas today, but in s week, there will be lows of 16 and 19 at night. They are under 3mm plastic. If they come up, should they be ok, or should I provide more protection.

I also planted carrots and spinach.

I think they'll be okay, Reid, since the ground is relatively warm now -- although I'm not sure about having them under the plastic; I'd be afraid they would cook when the sun is out, unless you mean they're under a "low tunnel." Tricky time of year!

Yes, hopefully, the plastic is not lying on the ground. We grow a lot of stuff around here under plastic grow tunnels. I wouldn't worry about any of those seeds - they are all pretty cold hardy.

They'll be fine. Peas can take frost as long as they are not blossoming. I have overwintered carrots and spinach under row cover too. They don't mind a bit of cold.

I love the design of that row cover. We usually see hoops houses. Your's look as though it would stand up no matter which way the wind was a blowin'.

I agree -- I like the way you have the hoops criss-crossed, Reid; seems like it would support the plastic better than just spacing them out the "normal" way, too. I have to remember to try that the next time I set up a low tunnel! Thumbs up

Thanks! I'm glad you all like it. I use spring clips to attach the plastic to the poles. I work for a company called A Backyard Farm. We do this so we can plant a lot earlier.
I will enclose these beds later this spring. Below is an example of what we do.

Reid,

I just checked your company's website. I think you are selling vegetables and nutrients(?). I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time figuring that out. I do like Cooper - I think I have a close relative of his living with me. If I dig a hole, he fills it. If I fill a hole (with a new plant in it), he digs it up. Go figure...

I am interested to know what you are using to make your hoop houses that is that bendable. Here in Reno, where the wind often blows at 50+ mph, your criss-crossed hoop design could be a winner. How do you bend the hoops? And where do you find the material to use for the hoops?

Daisy, I imagine Reid will answer this for himself -- but I'm pretty sure it's PVC (polyvinylchloride) pipe (in other words, "plastic," more or less). Very bendy! Smiling

The company I work for installs an maintains raised bed gardens in people's back yards. We also mentor clients be successful on their own. We work with many schools, senior citizens, and group homes as well.

Yes, it is pvc pipe. The irrigation is from a company called drip works. This is a modified version of Sq. foot gardening we use.

Thanks Reid,

I didn't realize a piece of PVC pipe could bend like that.

I am familiar with Dripworks. I really need to put in a drip system but keep putting it off. This year especially because I am growing celery and it needs constant moisture.

Reid - neat website! Sounds like you all can turn everyone into backyard farmers! And in an urban setting - kudos to your team.
