I'm adding to my list in the swaps tool as I go along... please let me know if you need to be added as a participant, and Dave will add you. (It's not set up to let you enroll on your own once trading has started)

Meanwhile, here's a list of "extras" from our group buys and other "good deals" I can offer at cost.

Caladium bulbs -- mixed. I ordered 5 pounds, got them at a great price ($25). I divided the lot as evenly as I could manage into 10 bags. They are mostly smaller bulbs, great for tucking here and there in containers. A half pound bag contains as many as I can hold in my hand plus a couple.

Marking Pens! I'll get both Silver and the new "Extreme" black sharpie, both "fine point" (the regular size). Last year the "industrial" sharpie seemed less fade-resistant to me. I think they may have gone toward making it heat-resistant and chemical-resistant instead... and the new "extreme" variety has replaced it as the fade-resistant one.

I can get both for about $1 each from Amazon... Buying them in 12-packs gives us a price break, and I'll just stash away any extras. The silver works really well on black nursery pots and cell packs... I can usually read it 3 years later.

In addition, I have some paper mate mechanical pencils with thicker leads (1.3mm) that I really like for writing on both zinc and window-blind labels. They're brightly colored, easy to hold, don't break their tip easily, and don't need sharpening. 60 cents each.

UPDATE: I keep checking for a good price on Amazon, but haven't hit a decent sale yet on the silver metallic. Unless Jim can get them at a discount from Office Depot on Friday, I'll just have the black available this time.

Lisa: 2 silver sharpies
SSG: 1 extreme black, 1 silver
Sally: 3 extreme blackI

Moisture Crystals I have Powder, Small, Medium (the size of "soil moist"), and Large. I've been using a 2:1 mix of medium and large for most needs (containers and in-ground planting). Small is nice for little pots and seed starting trays. Powder makes a great slurry for dipping bare root plants and for using when shipping plants for trade.

A little goes a long way with the moisture crystals... I go through several pounds a year, but I use them everywhere. At the box stores, they seem to run $12 or more per pound... I buy in bulk every few years, so we get it for $6.50 per pound. I'll make up some $1 bags of the powder, too... a little goes a really long way with the powder, but it's very useful stuff (just don't breathe it in).

Robinbunch: 1 pound medium, 1 pound large (or 2 pounds mixed)

***

LILY BULBS available from our Ednie group buy. At wholesale prices, any leftovers will go fast on swap day, so if you see something you want, please post *now* to reserve it. "Available" isn't the same thing as "must sell," since participants have said they'll take the extras, but we wanted to offer them to our friends!

For those who are in the swap -- if you asked for 5 or 10 of some variety, you are currently down for 5. So if you've been thinking you really do want 10, let me know!

We have not ordered from Ednie before, but from their reviews I'm expecting bulbs of similar size and quality to what we've had from ADR in the past.

For simplicity, I'm rounding prices up a few pennies to $1 per bulb, including shipping and re-packaging. I'll keep track of these on my haves/wants post, but please ask for them on this thread.

Thanks!

10 Asiatic 'Black Eye'
5 Asiatic 'Pacific Joy'

5 Oriental 'Aculpulco'
7 Oriental 'First Romance' (5 more for Lisa, on spreadsheet, 2 for Chantell)
5 2 Oriental 'Hot Line' (3 for RickM, 2 for Chantell)
5 Oriental 'Star Gazer'
10 Oriental 'Red Eyes' (5 more for Lisa, on spreadsheet, 3 for Chantell, 2 for my niece on spreadsheet)

5 OT Carbonera (5 for Frenchy)
10 OT Robina
10 5 OT Yelloween (5 for RickM)

5 Calla 'Captain Venturo' -- $2 per bulb
5 Calla 'Cherry Kiss' -- $2 per bulb

***

Lowe's had some nice quart-sized Garua on sale Friday, $2 each. I picked up 7 extras... anyone?
2 for ecnalg, 1 for Martina, 2 for Chantell, 2 for Lisa

I have no problem using the swap tool - it is extremely easy and I like the automation of the Haves/Wants lists. I have no problem either with keeping track multiple ways - chatting it up in the discussion thread and manually making lists in a Haves/Wants thread.

Note, unless an individual offering is marked "NONE LEFT", they are still up for grabs. If more is needed in the swap tool offering from what I originally set, I can increase it for the dib feature to remain available.

Not sure if this should go here, but wanted to let Spring Swappers know that like Critter, I have some extra/leftovers from special buys I have made. These are just starting to leaf out and bud up! I have listed these on the swap tool, but they can only be requested via the Chat thread or tree mail, not by calling dibs!

Deciduous Azaleas
I have a source for several varieties of native deciduous azaleas These are 15 - 18 inches tall and 4 - 5 yrs old. Cost is $14. Did I mention these are all fragrant? One or two of each available. LMK (Rare Find and Plant Delights sell these same size plants for $25+.) Made in Shade series will handle part shade instead of usual full sun requirements. Will bring to swap.

'My Mary'- (pale yellow) late April Made in Shade series ‘My Mary’, is a cross of (R. atlanticum x R. periclymenoides) x R. austrinum and has large pale yellow fragrant flowers. It blooms in April and grows to 8 feet tall.
http://plantlust.com/plants/az...

'Summer Eyelet '- white July Swamp azalea (R. viscosum) grows in damp or wet soil. ‘Summer Eyelet’ is a swamp azalea selection with spice-scented white blooms in July and grows to 6 feet tall. http://www.rarefindnursery.com......

'Nachoochee Princess' - white with tinge of pink Made in Shade series ‘Nacoochee Princess’, which is a R. atlanticum x R. periclymenoides hybrid, has large, white fragrant flowers with a slight tint of pink. This hybrid will grow from 8 to 10 feet tall. 'Nacoochee Princess' derives from controlled hybridization between R. atlanticum (coastal azalea) and R. periclymenoides (pinxterbloom azalea), and is one of the offspring of the so-called "Choptank hybrids," themselves named due to their occurrence as natural hybrids along the Choptank River of the eastern shore region of Maryland.
http://plants.squakmtnursery.c......

'Kennells Gold '- golden ‘Kennell’s Gold’ hydrid azalea (Rhododendron atlanticum x R. nudifloum x R. austrinum) Many hybrids exist among the various native deciduous azaleas. Some may be natural crosses, but many are bred. One impressive hybrid is ‘Kennell’s Gold’ ((R. atlanticum x R. nudiflorum) x R. austrinum), which has golden yellow flowers with pale orange floral tubes. This hybrid will grow from 12 to 15 feet tall and flowers in early April.

'Rosy Pink' - pink early bloomer Pinxterbloom azalea (R. periclymenoides) is a low-growing, suckering shrub that may grow to 10 feet tall, although the average height is 4 to 6 feet. Fragrant flowers vary in color from white to pale pink to deep violet, opening from April to May. Foliage is dull yellow in fall. An early blooming selection with pink flowers and rose pink buds is ‘Rosy Pink Nudiflorum’ which grows to 6 – 8 feet tall. The name Rhododendron periclymenoides is synonymous with R. nudiflorum.

Requests:
My Mary - pale yellow
Summer Eyelet - white
Nacooche Princess - white with pink
Kennells Gold - golden
Rosy Pink - med pink

Sally,

I'd love to have some of the Asarum canadense and Trandescantia. I transplanted a bunch (like 4 dozen) of starts last spring from between the bricks.. They did great all summer. And then the tree rats struck. They made short work of every one of the transplants, so I'm back to my little patch.

Thanks!

I'll add you to the list of party-goers, blossomgiver... and I'll send directions out to everybody a couple days before the swap (that way I know I'm not forgetting anybody who signed in at the last minute). We're easy to find.

@blossomgiver... could I please have the lacecap hydrangea OR one of the viburnums? I'd also love one of the scented geraniums, anything but citronella. Thanks!!

oops, sorry, didn't realize I was posting here and not on the plant chat thread...

Blossomgiver, you don't have to go through Dave to be added to the participant list on the swap tool... just follow the directions at the top of the plant chat thread.
We're all learners, doers, teachers.
