This one is growing pretty close to the weed in my previous post (Crazy Looking Weed #1), and it is most likely related to the other one, but it is different enough that it may be something totally different. This one is also growing in my flower bed that was previously part of one of our hay fields. I haven't found it elsewhere on the property.

The flowers are pink, and very small. At first, I was thinking Miner's Lettuce, but that plant has white flowers. But, it is very possible that it is Miner's Lettuce with pink flowers. There is no milky sap, so I don't think it is a spurge. I tore it in half, and there is a clear fluid. Also, there seems to be almost little to no root system.

Any help is appreciated!

It is Miner's Lettuce.

Thanks Daisy. Have you seen it with pink flowers? I can't find any pictures with pink flowers, but the plant overall looks just like Miner's Lettuce to me.

There are species with pink flowers, check the list of Claytonia in Montiaceae. Take particular note of the leaf shape which isn't completely split to the stem as C. sibirica appears to be.

Thanks Janet! I'm only about 40 miles from the Eastern WA border, so that site is super helpful! Hurray!

I'm leaning toward Perfoliata, but I'll wait until mine blooms to make sure. In the meantime, I'll study the entries on the site a little more.

There are a couple of pictures in the database here that look more like C. sibirica to me, and that had me confused. The shape of the leaves was all wrong for mine, but now that I've seen pictures of C. sibirica, I wonder if those pictures are attached to the wrong plant? Until about 3 days ago, I had never heard of Miner's Lettuce, so I've got no idea!

I also think some photos are wrongly attributed to the wrong plant in the entry for C. perfoliata which is what I thought yours might be, although the leaves on yours are more deeply cut.

Kelli's photo looks like Claytonia parviflora ssp. parviflora, there seems to be some variation from plant to plant and there's also different subspecies which show some variation.

There's even a site just for Claytonia! They are difficult, more than one species included in a 'complex' which means they are near impossible to separate. Where you can relate it to a certain location is obviously of some help but not conclusive.

The C. perfoliata complex, including also C. rubra and C. parviflora, is probably the most difficult group in section Limnia

There's several species listed on the above site with a lot of photos. click on the Claytonia link.

Reminds me of Claytonia too, how about C. sibirica which grows up your way?
