I'm thinking about making a 3rd mini garden this summer that's kind of a homestead scene that has a tiny "veggie" garden with a few cute little rows, tiny scarecrow... thoughts/shared ideas/pics welcome!

Here's some little pots that decorate my bigger mini garden, some established for a while, some have a few new things added, some were just put together. The little Sedum bits haven't had a chance to take root yet, kind of this summers' before pics.

your mini pots are a great idea for little gardens too. love the round blue ones. are they handmade?

TYVM! Yes, they are wine corks. The blue paint is fading, but I kind of like that. It's looking less newly-contrived.

These little guys look better after a few weeks, the newer plants have had a chance to adjust & get going again, and there are a few new pots.

Kalanchoe marnieriana & a couple diff Rhipsalis.

Sedum kimnachii & a couple Sedeveria leaf-babies, a little snippet of Jade (Crassula 'Hobbit.')

K. marnieriana, Rhipsalis teres, Sedum sarmentosum, something else.

Echeveria harmsii, R. teres, S. sarmentosum.

Jade (C. 'Hobbit,' S. sarmentosum.)

Sempervivum or Jovibarba (not sure,) another mystery "something else," Sedum morganianum leaf babies (mama leaf is gone by now) and the other 2 babies are probably K. marnieriana but I'm not sure at that size.

A micro-Sedum that's a mystery to me, Graptosedum, Haworthia cooperi.

Micro pots. The red plants are jelly bean (Sedum rubrotinctum.)

Sedeveria leaf babies (in another wine cork.)

Sedeveria & Sempervivum or Jovibarba (not sure.)

How long do they last in the mini-pots?

TYVM! The older ones are about 3 yrs old. I've snipped a few pieces off here'n'there but nothing has had to be repotted yet. The Sedum sarmentosum in the newer pots probably won't last long before it has to go. That can really get going.

I do the same thing with broken off pieces of succulents! You have a very nice collection of plants!

TYVM! The clay pots were purchased. The corks came from wine, I hollowed them out.

I thought some of the pots might be made from corks! Great idea!!!!!!

I propagated some babies from this snake plant leaf to use in mini while they're tiny. IDK how long that will be.

A new crop of tiny pots, various lids, painted. 2 of them are corks I already had but forgot to bring tiny pots in when it got really cold for 2 nights in Jan. & lost some plants. So I gave those a new coat of paint too & new plants. Not finished with these yet but it's what I could do yesterday.

Tiny homemade cement/cloth pots? Has anyone made any?

I'm really going to make some regular sized ones in a few weeks, finally, but it has occurred to me, why not make some micro's while I'm at it? If you already have, please share & inspire us!

What are the conditions? sun exposure ? water? your geographic location? When you get this miniature is so easy to go wrong becasue everything equilabrates with the environment so quickly... I'm really really impressed and I'd love to know how you do it.

Turbo, I'm so much farther south than you are, the details of my mini can't be of as much use to you as you could get by asking for the experience of others in your climate/location/house-type situation. And I welcome your company in this discussion, but if you decide to ask your own questions, more people will see your questions in a new discussion, and your questions will get the separate attention they deserve.

Most of the plants I showed can survive outside here, in the right spot, but I don't think that would be the same where you are. You can also use the database here to find plants suitable for mini gardening, and select from those the ones that might be hardy where you are, if doing a permanently outside mini garden is your goal.

If you plan to bring inside for winter, look for those that don't need as much sun. Most of the plants suitable for mini gardening seem to be of the generally succulent type, so cactus/succulent forum is also a good place to ask for information about specific plants.

Thank you for reminding me weather is weather, and sometimes we're happier to admire from afar than struggle up close...

besides, since when do I need a reason to pull the cork out of a bottle of wine in addition to the fact there's wine inside?
