I received these fans of Elohim Angelic Flight from the Lily Auction, and they came with scapes. Just wondering should I cut them or see if they will bloom. I would love to see the blooms now, but I don't want to ruin my chances for nicer blooms later. They may abort from the transplant shock. I've never received new plants already scaped up.

I think each fan only makes one flower scape, so you can keep them and let them bloom. Surely the grower would have cut them off if they were going to set back the plant.

If you can grow new fans by the next bloom time, you'll have more flowers, too.

I've had poor results trying to get shipped scapes to bloom, most of them self-abort.

I've tried planting them in the field, planting in containers, various levels of shading, and even leaving the fans sitting in a pail of nutrient-laced water. I still try though, and I've never been able to notice much difference in the plant's performance. I'm not in the cut-all-scapes-off-on-new-plants club. I've noticed that if the plant feels too stressed by an event, it will attempt to self-correct.

All but one of the scapes aborted. I pot planted them as soon as I got them. I pot all of my new plants for a while to see if they develop rust. I had a bad experience last summer with plants from a California grower. The others turned yellow and fell off. The last one is still green but I don't know if it will make it.
