Could you please tell me how to propagate this plant? Do I take cuttings?? Use leaves ?????
If I cut, where?
I propagate gardenias, jasmine, etc. but philodendron I am not sure. This one bleeds big time when cut. I broke off a leaf by accident and I thought I cut myself. It is a lovely plant but it gets very tall and no leaves at the bottom. I must be doing something wrong.

I also have a Philodendron 'Autumn' that I need to separate. Is there a trick to that I should know?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I can help you with this but I'll be able to help more if I can see the plant. Can you post a picture of your plant?

Thank you very much. I really feel stupid, but I am new to propagating philodendron and I am not sure I want to waste too much time on these two. I was disappointed in how they matured over the months, yet a blame me on the way they look just now. My dog has been very sick and I neglected my plants. I had him put to sleep and am now back to worrying about plants. Lovey dubby

OK, for the Pink Princess, you have several options. If roots from the upper portion of the plant have established themselves in the soil already, you can just cut the stem below those roots and let the bottom part of the stem sprout a new head. You can unpot the original root ball (gently) and tease out the root(s) that belong to the top part you cut off. Then, pot up with the root(s) buried. If no established roots are present, you can still cut the top off, let the cut end dry, then pot it up with some of the aerial roots buried so they can take hold. The bottom will still resprout over time.

For the Philo. 'Autumn', you need to see if there are several growing heads. There should be if you are wanting to divide it. Next, verify that the smaller one(s) have some little roots coming out already. You may find that one or more of these roots have established themselves in the soil. If so, do not cut those roots, but do make your cut with a clean blade at the junction where the small plant is joined to the larger one. Do this with each secondary plant you wish to separate (if there are several present). The procedure is the same if there are no roots from the secondary plant(s) established in the soil. You then pot the newly separated plants up, being sure to bury any small roots already emerged. Remove a few leaves from near the cut if they are in the way of potting the plant up properly.

Keep moist but not wet, and in the shade, and you should have more plants going soon.

I've been looking for a pink princess, but they are so expensive, any suggestions where I can find an inexpensive one. Thanks

Aaron - Yes, as long as the plant is right close to and directly in front of the north window.
