Thought I would share a pic of my A Blue Boa that is returning after being planted last spring. I was so excited that all my Agastaches except the second Blue Boa and my second A Heatwave hybrid (both of those had been moved a couple times so I think I contributed to their demise). Blue Boa is one I had mixed emotions about getting. When I saw it at the local place where I bought it, it was already in bloom and I just didn't care for the look and shade of color of the blooms. But in my flower bed amongst the others it looked gorgeous. I am so glad I did get it- replaced the second one already this year. No blooms yet this year but oh my the foliage is pretty too! This one and the others are fuller this year. This one is about 1 1/2- 2 feet tall already and about 15 or more inches diameter. Nice and full. Blooms should be starting soon, I will post another pic when it blooms. I highly recommend it. I would also be interested in others' experience and pics of it.

Here is my monster A Blue Boa today! Three feet tall and just starting flower buds- a little more than 2 feet across (I actually measured it today). Sure glad I put this at the back of the bed! Since the one on the opposite end is new this year, it is WAY smaller, but since this one came back so beautifully, hopefully next year they will both be the same size.

Yes, it seems you have a monster!

32 in tall and 16in wide?
Today my "monster" measures 45 in tall and 36 in wide!! I am beginning to wonder if it is going to take over the whole bed! I hate to call it a monster because it certainly is beautiful- and the hummingbirds are very happy with it! I may need to prune it some because it is starting to crowd the ones around it, especially the poor A Heatwave hybrid directly in front of it. When I planted them last year I spaced them according to the largest dimensions I could find. Obviously they are going to vary depending on climate and even weather conditions. I can only say I guess I picked the best spot for this bed, which is almost all Agastaches, because all the ones that have come back from last year are growing extremely well! The picture below I just took, compared to the last picture it isn't as apparent how much it has grown but that is only because I had to take this picture further back to get the whole plant in it!!

I want to get this one this year or next. I grew it in 2013, but it died.

This one has tempted me since it came on the market. Keep us updated. In recent years I have gotten away from experimenting with Agastache. These days I am sticking with the ones that are tried and true: a bunch of 10 year rupestris and hybrid of it like Firebird and random seedlings that have survived. I also like several eastern natives, the short-lived but freely volunteering foeniculum and a white-flowered version of scrophulariifolia. There are probably a few hybrids with cana and aurantiaca in them but that was generations ago. Still, Blue Boa is tempting.

Well I did it- I pruned the "monster"! I left the height, just pruned some of the stems at the edges where it was crowding the A Heatwave hybrid in front of it and the A Aurantiaca Apricot Sprite that is diagonally from it. It still looks beautiful and now the others can grow better. I also moved the A Rupestris on that same side forward a little (it is in front of the A Heatwave) because I guess my measuring was off- the A Rupestris on the opposite side was in correct position to give A Heatwave adequate room. Then in the center of the bed I moved the 2 A Salmon and Pink, which should be the shortest of them all, to the front and put the 2 A Cana behind them and in front of the A Aurantiaca Apricot Sprites. Then I have 2 spots at the back for the 2 A Avas which will come this week. They will be between the 2 A Blue Boas in the back row of the bed. I think it is going to look very nice with a good view of all (as long as there are no more huge surprises with size). It will be great to have that flower bed full and complete.
