Yesterday I received some salvia coccinea seeds. I was wondering if I should plant them now or wait until Fall? Thanks

Mine reseed themselves all the time and I find new sprouts throughout the season. I would think you should be able to plant them and see blooms.

If you're in zone 8a, you could get two generations of plants in one season--I do. I don't even plant them anymore, just let them come up and pull the ones I don't want.

I had another question? Do I surface sow the seeds or bury them a little?

I've done both. Very tiny seeds usually don't need be buried, so I either tamp them down gently or cover them just a bit and tamp them down firmly.

Thanks Taqiyyah. I'll do that. The seeds are surprisingly bigger than I expected. I got some seed starting mix so once it stops raining I'll sow some seeds.

Wonderful!! Of the seeds I sowed this spring the S Coccinea (mine is Summer Jewel Lacender) was the first to germinate! Good for you! The other nice thing about S Coccinea (at least the ones I have had) is that they bloom when still fairly small. You are going to enjoy them!

That's good to know Judy. I can't wait to see the first bloom on these. I may plant some in full sun and some in dappled shade.
