Are Justicia brasiliana , Brazilian plume flower,

justicia-carnea , dianthera-nodosa pink shrimp plant

The same plant?

This is what I have, it was purchased just as pink shrimp, which I believe to be Justicia Carnea
One of my neighbors says it is Justicia brasiliana and is the same as pink shrimp plant
Thank you for any help Smiling

Sorry, I forgot to title it,

Dianthera nodosa is a synonym for the, now, accepted name of Justicia brasiliana. So, yes, they are the same.

Justicia carnea (Brazilian Plume Flower) is a different species.

Your plant looks like Justicia brasiliana.

We need to update the NGA database with the name changes. @zuzu Green Grin!

Thank you, Danita. Apparently, the whole Dianthera genus is gone, so I'd better update our entries. Smiling

Confused When I do a database search for Justicia brasiliana I get a message saying no plants found.

Shouldn't show up when I type that name in the search box? I can get to it when I type in the name Dianthera or when I type in Justicia and then click on View all plants in the Genus but when I type the Genus and Species name in the search area I get the message that no plants are found! I've checked and double checked my spelling when I type it into the search box ... can't figure out what I'm doing wrong? Confused

If I search for Dianthera I get them all: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

When database changes are made they may not be searchable immediately. Give the system some time to update and it will be searchable.

Thanks, Zuzu! Those fickle taxonomists like to keep you busy! Big Grin
I just happened to be looking up Justicia species' chromosome counts last month, so I noticed the change then.

I love Justicia brasiliana! It's a great little plant...so cute! Lovey dubby
