I found this right next to the trunk of my magnolia tree. Any ideas what it is? A new seedling maybe?

It is a seedling with the two parts of the seed split apart. The centre growth looks to have been damaged, it might shoot out from the sides.

What sort of Magnolia is it? It looks more like some sort of nut, are there any oaks nearby?

Hi Dave.

Its looks like quiet big cotyledons. Is it the nut shell which maybe belong to the seed next to it ?

The cotiledons/first leaf looks different from magnolia seedling.

Its better to pot the seedling and wait till it have more recognizeable leaves to identified Smiling

I can do that. I actually tried to pull it, but it seemed attached to something. Didn't want to pull in case it was bad
