Hello, My name is Lea I just joined in the hope you can answer a question for me. My daughter has a little desert rose tree she grew from a seedling, it's her first and only plant, it's just a little thing about three and a half inches tall and it was getting it's first branch but I accidentally broke the branch off. She knows it was an accident and isn't mad at me but she is still very upset and is afraid her tree might not grow up to be pretty now. Will that little branch grow back? I told her I would try to find out.

Some times it grows another few leaves, but It takes a bit of time. It is like pruning just at a young age. Does she have a pic? In this heat just don't let it dry out but it needs to drain and not get soft.
I would leave it out of direct sun for a week , before moving it back out.

I got a desert rose in 2014 and I replanted and it still not grow well. I keep it where it hot and very bright sun. Any advice on why the plant is not growing well? The stem is very thin and there leaves are only growing from the top of the branch and there are no leaves at the side of the branch.

What kind of soil is it in? needs to be quick draining. Is this plant inside? What size pot is it in? When you say "Hot" do you mean the plant dries out a lot? Get back with us we would love to provide more help. Welcome to the forum!

Hot means the temperature outside. I use potted soil .

It looks to me like the pot itself is shading the plant. The leaves are growing near the top because that is where the light is.

If it were my plant I would find a smaller pot (about the size of the root ball you have now) and plant it so the soil surface is just slightly below the lip of the pot. Look at some of the other photos on this site and see how the plants are situated in the containers. Also, there are different types of potting soil and some are significantly better than others. You don't want to use anything with moisture crystals in it as they would keep the soil too moist. Adeniums like to be watered well but prefer excellent drainage at the same time - confusing, I know. Bargain brands of potting mix are rarely a bargain, go for the good stuff and that varies in different areas of the country. Even with quality soil you might want to incorporate something like perlite to increase the drainage. Good luck with your plant.

Alice has given very good recommendations. Also be sure that the new container has lots of drain holes at the bottom. Keep the newly transplanted tree in part shade for a week and do not water during this time. Gradually expose to more sun and resume with your regular regime of watering/fertilizing, allowing the top inch to dry out between watering's.

I live one the West Coast of Canada. Vancouver Island.
Mine have been blooming since May/June and many still putting on flowers. The age and conditions that the plant is growing in will be a gauge as to when it blooms.

I am just blooming now and buds are just setting. You can look up Gritty mix on Google I use a variation of to what I can easily buy in my area.
