Years ago I acquired a tree peony without an ID. It is a good performer, but it is embarrassing to keep referring to it as my anonymous tree peony. Another strange aspect is that it came co-planted with a deciduous peony.

Does any one have any idea what it might be?

That is a beautiful Tree Peony but I have no idea of a cultivar name. I sure wish those beautiful Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa) would grow in Florida because I'd have a yard full!

Here's one for comparison but this one describes a red bloom and yours looks a deep pink to my not so great eyes.

There are hundreds of peony cultivars. Some simply don't have names.

It would be sad to think that this nice plant has to go through life nameless.

As Kniphofia stated though, there are hundreds of cultivars out there so it might be very difficult to find an exact match. Hopefully others will be along with suggestions though and perhaps come up with the correct name.

I went to the Peony Forum and posted a link back here in hopes that maybe someone who grows these beauties might recognize and be able to offer a possible ID.

I'm not an expert on tree peonies and unfortunately I don't recognize that one. It is really gorgeous, though. Don't know if anyone else has come over from the peony forum but we have several people who grow lots of them. There are thousands of registered tree peonies, makes it really hard to figure out names. If yours had a herbaceous peony with it that typically indicates that it was a grafted tree peony though--they're typically grafted onto herbaceous roots. If the herbaceous root is planted at a typical 2" below the ground the herbaceous root can start growing again instead of just providing energy to jump start the tree peony. That will often cause the tree peony to fail, yours looks perfect, though!

Liz pointed out that tree peonies usually come grafted. Your companion peony is not by any chance the root-stock. Right? I am assuming that the companion came as a separate plant, and that you planted it three to five feet away from the tree peony.

I'm not an expert, just guessing here based on your pictures. Could it be Naniwanashiki? Some pictures posted online have lighter petal edges because of the sunlight, though. Or maybe it's one of the "red" Japanese varieties.
