Hi all,

I am hoping someone on this forum can help me deal with the voles eating my siberian iris & iris cristata. It happens during the winter under a cover of snow. Over the past 3 years I have had fewer & fewer iris coming back. Any suggestions? I am ready to pull the remaining siberian iris & iris cristata out & try something new in that location.

Here is a photo of the siberian iris 3 years ago. The photo does not show very well, but the iris were beautiful.



If I had a photo of that part of the garden now, you would see maybe one or two blooms, no more.

Lucy---forgive me I am a bit dense. Are you pulling my leg? The iris? Your friend puts the iris in his garage for the voles to eat? ?

My problem is moles, not voles -- so I can't help, and I'm sorry about that, but I sure can sympathize.....

No -- Decon. The friend put Decon in the garage. Lucy doesn't pull peoples' legs.

Thank you. voles follow the mole runs. We don't have moles, so no voles. Doesn't rhyme but I can't help that.

We do have the star nosed mole which is a swamp animal. It turns up every once in a while. I think I have seen 2. Its nose looks like a roto router.

When putting out poison keep the door shut so no stray cats get it.

I don't remember the floor surface. It's not an attached garage.

We've got gophers and moles here. I trap the gophers and use Talprid bait for the moles.

Rid-x has been effective for mice and rats here. It's non poisonous to any animal eating a rodent that's ingested it.. I believe the main ingredient is corn gluten. It might work with voles..

D-Con, took me a sec to catch that also. Moles follow the grubs. Grubs follow?

thank you arlyn, i think i'm going to purchase this product for the gophers. sounds easy enough to use, by sprinkling then watering it in.

I don't have moles or gophers but several years ago saw definite signs of voles round my apple tree when the snow came off. I probably have a rat but I haven't been able to catch sight of it but I hear the rustling in the myrtle and see the movement of the leaves by something bigger than an mouse. As I get rid of most of the myrtle, still about a third of the back yard to go, I hope to get rid of him/her, There are a couple of neighbor cats who visit my yard so don't want to put out any poison.

unfortunately, i cannot 'employ' any neighbors' cat. we can't have cat outdoors in this area because of the large raptors and coyotes😬.
