Thread OP

I thought I was digging up baby banana trees but when they started to grow, I saw that the leaves are growing straight from the stalk, not from a stem attached to the stalk like my banana tree. Now I wonder what type of plant I have growing in my pots. I live in Orlando, Florida. They look like banana trees when they were small, a tightly furled leaf coming from the center of the stalk.

Looks like a ginger. Possibly a Butterfly Ginger (Hedychium coronarium)

I agree
Member of ginger family. But i am not sure which one. It could be butterfly ginger as Jay said.
But there also many possibilities. The leaf shape and arrangement in family looks so similar. Smiling

Thanks all! I guess I will plant them on the side of the house and see what color flowers bloom, if any. I have 9 growing in pots and disappointed they aren't banana trees.

I agree, mine was just a guess since the form is right and it is probably the most common. No way to know for sure until it blooms.
