We love to talk about all aspects of weather, the effect on our gardens, and on our lives. It's a good place to keep a record of weather in our gardens from year to year too, so for that reason let's stay as close to the topic as we can. Please join us and tell us about your weather.

Starting off this first day of summer at 66f. The storm front came through last night with only a small shower, just enough rain to barely wet the deck. Headed for a high in the 70's which will feel good compared to the 80's and 90's of the past few days. After the wild and crazy weather of Spring, I wonder what Summer has in store for us all!

Hurray! I'm so happy because we're having the second sunny and quite hot day in a row! It's 78 here, maybe we'll get to 80. I love sun!

I had to laugh the other day. The announcer on the radio was reading the weather report ......the station is not too far from us ( maybe an hour) anyway, he started to read the weather report and stopped dead .....he had been saying that it was dry and hot and no precipitation was expected for some time .......after what seemed like a long time of silence (because one is used to a radio broadcast never being silent ) but was probably only a few seconds he came back on the air and said ..that he had stumbled over the report because as he was reading the report he happened to look out the window of the studio and it was pouring outside.

So then he went on to say that prediciting the weather used to be somewhat of a guessing game but now that we have all the newest technology and millions of dollars have been spent to acquire the technology , our ability to predict the weather had risen dramatically to 10 to 15 percent accuracy ........I howled ! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing At least this was one weather reporter telling the truth for once .

Rolling on the floor laughing Funny story, Signet.

Summer certainly came in with a bang last night! We had a wild storm with very high winds, lashing rain that came down in torrents and a tornado warning. I went out early this morning to look at the gardens and they came through remarkably well. The peonies are crashed, but once they dry out, they should pop back. I mainly have single flowered peonies, not the big puffy ones, so they tolerate rain quite well. The dust and pollen is all washed off and the garden is looking nice and fresh. The catmints are a little worse for wear and will need to be puffed up given a stake or two. Little Penny's Worth gave me the first daylily bloom of the season this morning. I also noticed a scape on one of my new daylilies (Tennyson) just purchased by mail order this spring Thumbs up

Linda, I read an article once on Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and how the rangers still have to make their rounds during the heat of summer. The ranger was asked who would be out in such heat. He replied, 'German tourists. They love the heat.'

Yesterday it got up to 109F. We had to go outside to go to Souplantation. It was unreal. They are calling for a high of 95F, which means it will probably be around 98F at my place. That won't be hard to do. It was already 76F at 6AM. Usually it is in the high 50s at that time.

It wasn't me, Valerie!! Whistling

Today ís drier than yesterday (when it kept pouring áll day long.. Thumbs down ), but still cloudy and very humid. Temp has maxed out at 65F again.
I sure hope Summer will be better than Spring!

Hot (for us, 89 degrees)
.11" of rain, not bad (for us)
Two blooms so far, (terrible any way you look at it)

However, Summer Solstice with a full moon (Strawberry Moon) won't happen again for 46 years. Here is what the Sun looked like setting over the Rio Grande;

Of course we couldn't enjoy the moon rising at the same time in all its glory because of the 13,000 foot mountains just behind our place. The sunset made up for it.

Supposed to have strong storms this evening with a possible tornado. Certainly hope not. We need the rain but not this way.

I love reading all the stories about weather, it was 101 in my yard yesterday at 8am...we are burning up here with these extreme temps. That same day it was 122 at 2pm...I am watering just to keep the wilt off my beds and it looks like the heat is going to continue. UGH why did we ever move back home.... The saying it is a "dry heat" gets old, it is a hot heat and if the wind is blowing it feels like someone turned the furnace up to 120....lol I will try to send some heat to those who need it!

We are enjoying some nice days. Temperatures in the 70's, light breezes and sun. Also, the big storm on Monday evening drenched my garden so the soil is nice and moist and the daylilies are loving it. I am starting to see scapes!

86 here at my place. No clouds. It's a hot summer day so starting from this evening I'll have to water a little by hand.

They are calling for a high of 91F, which means it could be 94F at my house. I think the nice weather is over until November. At least this morning was pleasant. It was probably in the 60s.
