Hi,
I've had these irises for years and bluntly put...hate them. I picked them up from the curb with a free iris sign. I want to id them to help get rid of them. They bloom about mid season and are an historic variety. Any help is appreciated.

Lovey dubby They sure are beautiful! Sighing! I wish pretty Irises like that would grow here in Florida.

I don't know a thing about Iris but I'll submit a proposal to move this thread over to the Plant Identification forum to see if anyone who watches that forum might recognize them and be able to offer an exact cultivar name.

A few possibilities spring to mind but some questions first. When does it bloom? How tall is it? Can we have pictures of the throat? Does the base have purple foliage?

Hi,
They have finished blooming to get a good pic of the throat. Shucks. But, they do have purple at the base. I took the pic on May 29th which is early compared to my tall bearded iris for Michigan. They measure 23in. to 3 feet. The 3 foot ones are getting in an increasingly shady spot and are reaching for the sun.

Lindsay, they are so pretty to me. One idea...you could list them in the plant trading forum and maybe trade for something that you do love. Hurray! Win/win!! Sorry I cant help with id.

Could be I. germanica or a few others. Great idea to sell/trade them if you don't want them. Perhaps a neighbor would?

Too pink for germanica now that I look closer.

Indian Chief or something similar?

I have those same iris, too. Mine are short also 24 inches. I always thought Indian chief, but recently was told they are too short to be Indian chief. I would also love to know their name! Many blessings to everyone!

Indian Chief has a "wire edge" on the standards and also a netting kind of pattern.. It's a vigorous grower, and prolific bloomer. This picture sort of shows both.
