We came from The thread "Show us your Cottage Garden & Chat (September 2011)" in Cottage Gardening forum

Can't believe that October is here ....where did the summer go?
Are you putting out scarecrows and pumpkins yet?
Hmmmm..... thinking about that.
Getting ready to hit the Garden centers for the winter pansies to plant on the deck rail hayracks. Some winters they bloom all through.

No scarecrow or pumpkins yet. I took pics first thing this morning.

Here is what is blooming in my yard on October 1st.

Thumb of 2011-10-01/CherieCoogan/6bbc76 A native geranium I got from our local nature center,

Thumb of 2011-10-01/CherieCoogan/e77c37 /This Goldenrod just isn't opening its buds very fast. This is Solidago 'Fireworks'

Thumb of 2011-10-01/CherieCoogan/1c15cf A viburnum? Forgotten which. This is the very first shrubs I put in and didn't have the sense to keep the tags.

Oooh! Tee, great Autumn colors! Love your wreath.

Here is one of the trough / hayrack planters. It has hangars that hang over the deck railing.

Have to go & check our 'Autumn Joy' tomorrow. We have been away for the weekend. I can't believe anything is blooming in WI this time of year. can't remember it from my childhood. Perhaps we grew the wrong plants. However the Boston Ivy on our brick house turned a brilliant red.

Hey, Twinkle Toes, lovely shots. I do luv the ocean! That beach looks fairly empty too. Nice. Big Grin

I just got back from a quick trip to Lowe's. Their Garden Center is looking so forlorn. I did get a couple of nice pots of mums marked down to half-price and few little left-over pots of sedums and ground cover for .25 each. So not a wasted trip, I guess.

It was 44º here last night. We have not yet had first frost yet though. They say it will 80º again in a few days. It's that time of year. Shrug!

Now that that's done, we can go outside, clean a bed and put down mulch on a new Daylily bed. Last week I planted it and still ache....
It's chilly out there...low 60's, but like Tee said, it'll be in the 80's again next week. Crazy transition weather.

Walked around out there and feel like I was saying goodbye.
Some things are still hanging on....
Was surprised at how hard it was to capture the crabapples.

I will try to get a few more shots this week. We had a light
frost last night but didn't see anything killed in the flower beds.
