Any ideas on what these dark spots could be on the leaves of my Night Blooming Cerius cuttings? I have them in the same greenhouse with my Orchids which is under a tree so there is not full sunlight and the temps stay around 80 at night and 90 give or take a few degrees during the day with between 50-75% humidity.

Too much water and not enough sunshine, I suspect.

Thanks Daisy, only getting watered about every 8-10 days but you're probably right about the sun. Would putting them back in my other greenhouse that gets full sun but the temps during the day might reach 100-110 during the day?

The plant looks like Epiphyllum oxypetalum, specifically. (Several plants are called night blooming Cereus.) A jungle epiphyte, a shade plant unless one is at much higher latitude. Any direct sun should be limited to the first or last couple hours of the day. Their natural milieu is in the trees, epiphytes, just like orchids.

Thanks Tiffany, I moved it out of the greenhouse in direct sun to the one that's under a large tree about 3wks ago. It gets no direct sun at all now. I didn't notice the spots until yesterday afternoon. Maybe I just gave them too much of a drink last time?

It's impossible to know from a pic... As far as a burn, it's possible the burn happened in the previous, more sunny spot and took a while to manifest on the leaves. The way they lean, they end up having a top/bottom, one side that gets light, the other side in shadows. If cut & one happens to put the piece the other way so that the side that was previously in shadow is now in a lot more light, burning could occur in the same amount of light that one thought the plant was already used to. I've burned pieces of that before, which looked like your pics, but doesn't look like I uploaded any pics to the DB entry.

If the roots are rotting, I don't think it would look like that. If you're concerned "overwatering" could occur, you could put more bark &/or perlite in the mix. This species should be growing at a noticeable speed in your location at this time of year.

That makes sense Tiffany that the burn may just be manifesting itself now. Hmm, I didn't use any bark, just added perlite to the soil. I'm going to keep an eye on them for now and sometime next week I may carefully take them out, add some large perlite I have and put back in.

Agree. That would allow you to keep the soil more moist w/o risking rotting. Let us know how it goes!
