Purchased a 5 fan clump that did not make it through its first winter here. Unfortunately, not hardy in northern Kentucky.

My sympathies to you Lisa. What else can I say, but I hate when that happens! This year may all of your purchases be blessed, and be fruitful and multiply.

I received this last spring as tiny little fans accompanied by a refund check due to their fragile condition. I didn't keep the check and the fans grew well. With an unusually mild winter, they haven't been tested for what would be a normal or colder than normal winter yet.

It was the first daylily to bloom this year. In fact, the three scapes were nearly finished blooming before anything began blooming. The blooms had trouble opening in the cool temperatures and probably half of the blooms were blotchy. That may have been due to an aphid infestation (and maybe thrips too) that was difficult to get under control.

It currently has a rebloom scape, so it may be among the last daylilies to bloom as well as the first. Guess that will test the blooms ability to withstand high heat and lots of sun. It's timing for bloom may not have been the best this year. The foliage is holding up well in the heat so far. Many daylilies are settling into a kind of heat dormancy with many outer fan leaves drying up, but 'Tusk' is still actively growing. Here's a photo of 'Tusk' today with the rebloom scape. Growing for another season or two will likely give more accurate info on how it grows in north central Texas.

Survived two zone:5 winters and bloomed this year. I did protect it with mulch and fall leaves. Put this one by the driveway so that I can enjoy the big pretty face.

@Hazelcrestmikeb do you have good snow over where you are??
I have noticed several daylilies will survive north of me ( with snow over) and south of me (less winter) but not survive here where we have little to no snow cover and many freeze/thaws. Tusk may be one like that.
