So good to have you here and I see you are learning all you can about daylilies! That is great. Reminds me I have not posted any photos of my daylilies here lately.

Thank you Thank You! @seedfork. Yes I'm a newbie at this. There is so much to learn📝 and so much information📖 entering my brain right now , I'm seeing Daylilies in my sleep🛌. I do tend to get confused 🆘trying to identify my flowers🌺. Some of them I get right off the bat but others ..wow it gets complicate. Trying to pack📦 it all in in such a short time.🗓 I see you're in Alabama, Howdie neighbor. 👋

I live a short distance from Raleigh in NC. My zone is a bit cooler than when we lived in Louisiana but I would love to see a SE regional discussion.

One topic of interest to me is when hurricane season comes and what people might be doing - if anything - for the torrential downpours we get from tropical storms. I realize the rains recede fairly quickly where I live but it seems a lot of rain comes about the same time and I'm a little concerned about nature's "over watering". Nearly everything in my gardens is now in raised beds so drainage is quick but I'd love to hear what others do during those exciting moments in our corner of the country.

Welcome! Not so much hurricanes that build water up where I am but spring rains. And this last Dec/Jan it was holiday rain. The river I live on was on the verge on washing all my new mulch away then they released the water on the dam below us. nodding
Last hurricane to do any damage for me was Ivan in '04. Rain not a problem, it broke my banana trees in half but no big trees toppled. Hope you will like our forum! Smiling

Thanks Larry - I've started through it. They have 53 pages so it will take a while.
Hi Rosie - glad there's someone close by, though I'm on the other (wrong?) side of the triangle. It's nice to not hear about Tarheels, Bluedevils, the Pack, etc isn't it? Sometimes you have to wonder if people here realize we have such beautiful surroundings when all we hear about is ACC fever and "final four" (sorry - I'm not a basketball fan). I envy your being so close to the botanical gardens in Chapel Hill! I visit Raulston in Raleigh some but really enjoy what Chapel Hill has to offer.
And Rosie is right about restaurants! - this is not the place to come if a diet is high on your bucket list!

My daughter graduated from UNC-CH and so I have to at least pay attention and I worked at Duke for more years then I care to think about. The only sport I ever paid attention to is tennis. Coming from NY and blocks from Forest Hills.

When the TarHeels and Blue Devils play....iI would get to work and see boxes of tissues taped tothe backs of office doors.

Tomorrow there is a nice garden show in Raleigh put on by Frances Alverino.
Also you know about Broadwells???acres and acres of plants and shrubs and trees...DIRT CHEAP....like bring a truck cheap..

And Plant Delights nursery and associated Jupiter Level Gardens. You should not miss those few open house weekends. .

Don't forget the state farmer's market in Raleigh, they have some good dealers there.

I wouldn't worry too much about hurricanes and/or too much rain. It happens and there is rarely significant damage unless you are in a flood zone. I would visit Plant Delights and talk with the folks there, they will allay your concerns.

Thank you for the welcome everyone!

Rosie, my 2nd eldest went to NC State; his brothers and sister love giving him anything blue just to irritate him. I think he has more problems with Fla State that UNC or Duke - often as not Fla. seems to put a whooping on them during football season.
Yes I live close to Plant Delights and try to make it to every open house (guess where I'll be this next weekend!). One day I hope to convince Tony I'm one of the cats so I can live there. So many plants, so little money! ;-)
I will check out Broadwells and the show in Raleigh. I discovered The Orchid Trail nursery in Morrisville several months ago (http://www.orchidtrail.com/ for any who are not in driving distance). They have a large selection of orchids and I understand he does a good bit of online selling. I enjoy going through the greenhouses just to see so many varieties all in one place. I like DeWayne's in Smithfield too.
I have spent way more time at the farmer's market this year than any year before. Lots of fun things to look for there, including water plants and carnivores - all with reasonable prices.
We've lived here for over 26 years so experienced Fran & Floyd. But back then gardening was more hit and miss; now it's closer to an obsession (my wife thinks I need intervention; I think I just need more plants).

Thank you for the new places to check out!

Here in the piedmont area of NC ...we have had some hot days but the humidity is far more stifling. Within minutes it is oppressive in the garden. Luckily, we don't have prolonged periods like this.

I spent Friday through Monday a little north of Asheville and it was 90 and above every day. We never got to sit outside and enjoy the garden as we usually do. My son told me it had been that way for over a week. It has been so hot and dry there the lawns are brown and some of the trees are already losing their leaves. Scary.

We are dry too. Lots of watering going on but like Rosie said, the humidity is terrible. Our heat pump went out - on a Saturday - but they were able to order a new one and had the air running by Tuesday afternoon. As soon as we had the air running, the humidity in the house dropped over 20%.

Hi everyone ... My name is Raso , for 4 years I am gardener in a luxury marina Porto Montenegro , and frankly, I enjoy my work ... it is much easier to work with plants than with people ...
